As a loyal customer with sprint its is really hard to sit back and watching them dragging there foot on releasing the new OS 4.5. As for me I updated my OS to the latest 4.2.2.196 and my 8830 is still suffering major data lost. Once a txt message is read it is automatically deleted without touching the device. Call log is just the same. With all the new devices coming out my faith with sprint is reducing. This is just way too long for the remaining die hearted customers

I will say that you only need 4.5 for any 8830. There is a procedure to make any device o/s work across service providers. You should look up the procedure but it involves deleting the vendor.xml

Yeah you just delete the vendor.xml file from the blackberry folder on your computer then run the installation. If you can't find it just do a search from the my computer folder. The problem though is that we're still waiting for the OS 4.5 for the 8830 phone. I don't think (someone correct me if i'm wrong) there are any versions out for our phone yet. I know there's a version for the 8800 but someone in the other forums tried using it on the 8830 and it didn't work out. Just looks like we got more waiting to do...

Well from the look of things, It seems as if some love will be shared very early for all the 8830 users. The following link show a "Beta tester" displaying an image of the 4.5 update on a 8830, and addressing some questions.

Sprint does not make the os or the updates, rim does. Rim is the maker of blackberry in case you didn't know 'loyal sprint customer mcky'... RIM developement goes to highest bidder. This is why for a while cingular att was getting all the new blackberries hot off the press. Spring just caught up with the curve, but tmobile will be the first to come out with the flip-phone blackberry, or so alleges their leak.

"G33KGRRL" Thanks for trying to shine some light. I am quite aware of the fact of who make or is responsible for the release of the OS and updates. My point was very clear on what I have said.

Incase you have a reading/understanding problem my concern is pointing to"the reason why SPRINT is dragging their feet with getting whatever deal they have to do with RIM and make their customers at least 95% satisfy" with this long awaited software update.
I am just as exicited as everyone about this coming OS update, but in the mean time suffering a great amount memory/data loss.

What I would like to know was what will the update fix. I currently cannot use sprint tv nor sprint navi, which is suppose come with the simply everything plan. Also if any as any links to good websites they would also be apppreciated. I am trying to learn everything I can about my 8830 we. Thanks guys

I have heard that 4.5 will open all that up for you. I patiently waited while using a 8830 WE for almost a year and then Sprint came out with their 8330 Curve. It has all those features that you seek. You give up the world phone feature, but get Sprint TV, and a camera. Sprint Navigation should work on your 8830 WE already - it did on mine.

After getting tired of waiting, I switched to the Curve...
    Sincerely,

Hi all; I currently have Verizon 4.2.2.196 (version 84) installed on my VZW 8830, experiencing random 1XEV to 1xev issues.
When trying to load Sprint 4.2.2.196 (version 85) on the above VZW 8830, Desktop Manager insists I have the same software version & doesn't allow me to update from the VZW platform 84 to the Sprint platform 85.
    Any hints/tips?
    Thx.
