    Just Ordered 8830

Well... I just ordered the 8830 from our bus. rep. Should be here in the morning. Retail price was $519, seemed like a strange price to me, but oh well.

I'm on the line with them as I type this and it's apparent that no one really knows what to do with the new plans etc.

    I've heard:
    a) that I qualify for the accelerated upgrade
    b) that I don't qualify
    c) that I can order the phone because of the problems I've had with the Q
    d) that I can't because I'm not a business customer
    e) that I have to drop the Family Share plan
    f) that I can keep the family plan
    g) that I have to get a global calling plan

    etc..

    We'll see what happens.

My discount plan for the 8830 is 299 for a 1yr contract 269 for a 2yr contract and 169 for a 2yr contract with an unlimited data plan.

    Re: Just Ordered 8830

I was told by a supervisor at Verizon that due to a bug in their ordering system, the 8830 orders won't be processed until tomorrow at the earliest and likely Wed of this week.
Sounds like no one will be getting an 8830 tomorrrow.

Disclaimer: I also heard they weren't actually launched yet, that they were out of stock, that the launch date was delayed until the end of May etc, etc....so take the above post with a grain of salt.

Looks like not many people at Verizon know anything about the 8830 yet.

tell us more about the GPS in the 8830, is it like the 8800 a true GPS that you can use any 3rd party app or is it "locked" by VZW?

I don't have the unit yet... but I read on another forum that VZW will put out there own app in a couple months and charge 9.99/month. Like I said I can't verify this, just what I read.

I was told something similar. I spoke to a customer service rep. she said she could order it for me today but thatI was eligible for an acclerated upgrade in June. I will definitely wait til then. I didn't know they had such a thing.
I will wait and see what happens with the 8300 series in any event.

I ordered mine at about 2 PM MST today and within 15 mins had a tracking number for overnight delivery, so I will have mine tomorrow morning. Paid $299 and it comes with an additional $100 mail-in rebate. However, I am on a business plan and and am under the impression that we received a very good discount because of our status with Verizon.

You sure that wasn't $399 with a $100 mail in rebate?

Also, the rebate is instant if you order online.

    Yes.

I was told May 28th they'll be available in retail stores. (Although I'd still call to order as opposed to trying the local store.)

I'm pretty sure he has the right price. As I said before my company plan is similar.

$299 for a 1yr contract with or without unlimited data plan
$269 for a 2yr contract without unlimited data plan (therefore no $100 rebate)
    $169 for a 2yr contract with unlimited data plan ($269 + $100 rebate)

I was suprised a little by the pricing, I thought it would be at the 399 range, but I confirmed this with the rep a few times.
