Indication of possible water or moisture damage?
I have a Verizon 8830 World Edition. I accidentally dropped it into my dog's water bowl and grabbed it out within, I believe, milliseconds. I blew out any water that had entered with moisture free canned air and then used a hairdryer to dry it further. (There was only a very tiny amount of moisture that had entered as far as I could see). After that it booted up fine but now the red indicator light is always on faintly and sometimes the key backlighting doesn't work. Otherwise it's all good. My question is, is there a way for Verizon to tell if it has been "water damaged?" I want to get it fixed if I can but don't want them to balk and tell me, "sorry, it's been in water so you're SOL."
The main reason I'm asking is I want to check and see if the indicator in my BB has been activated.
Anyone have experience with this?

There should be something under the battery, take the battery out and look there, there is on most phones. I believe it looks like a piece of tape but I'm not sure. That's all I know to do
I have not taken this one apart YET, these new phones usally have moisture spots on the circuit board (used to be right under the battery). This spot would turn from white to red/ pink or have small x's on it when exposed to moisture. I've also seen alot of phones develop oxidation on the circuit board. Im sure theres a couple techs here somewhere, but I'm pretty sure there's no way around it, they'll be able to tell. Dose the insurance not cover water damage? I'm not familiar with vzw I do know Sprints dose cover water damage.

I have verizon and I was told that it does cover water damgage
~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ TMobile does not cover water damage. I know from personal experience.
The white dot was under the sim card on my 8100. Where's yours? Did it turn another color?
Not sure where dot is on 8830, that's why I'm asking.
What happens if you just remove the dot if it did change color?
How are they to know that it didn't just fall off or was never put on in the factory?
Before you panic, a white indicator with Red X's is ok; pink, red, or blurred X's indicate water damage. There are damage indicators on the battery, and normally within the battery compartment. It would no surprise me at all to learn that there are additional indicators internally..
if you have the phone insurance from verizon it covers everything even "water damage" i know because droped mines in the sink while cleaning my hands..
There is litmiss paper under the batt on the left side (screen down) and there's some on the batt. Check both then take to vzw. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~
How'd it work out? Were u WD?~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~
With Assurion, Verizon's third party insurer you may have a phone replaced at anytime for a deductible that varies, as long as you have the coverage (costs $6-7 per mo.) I believe the deductible is $50 for BBs. The rub is that if you have two claims in any 12-month period you gat dropped from the insurance policy (after they supply you with a second phone). If one of the replacements stops working you have 30 days after receiving to send it back and get another replacement for free, but it has to be returned scratch free and clean as far as the water indicators. If you were unlucky enough to say, get your replacement wet by jumping into your pool with the BB in your pocket, and you are under the 30-day deadline, there are replacement water indicator stickers available on ebay, as well as batteries for under $10. This saves you a $100 fee for returnin the phone with visible water damange, as well as prevents you from being dropped from the policy. I am not sure whether there are additional internal indicator stickers or not, but it seems that replacing the two (one on battery, and one on device under battery) passed the sniff test and worked for me.
They definitily have those strips inside... + there is one on the battery.
FYI, T-mobile/RIms Warranty doesn't coever water damage, If you have the insurance, that is Asurion, which is a 3rd party insurenace company, and they should cover water damage. you just have to pay the deductable
