Has anyone tried placing the SIM card from their 8830 into an unlocked phone? I'm curious what would happen.

Nothing would happen to your sim card if that's what your trying to ask.

I'm using my sim in my un-locked 8800 and it works fine, but the only way you can get to work or recognize your sim is thru your provider (they need to update the IMEI number).

    Hope that helped

Nothing should happen because the sim in your 8830 isnt active, its your phone that is active. However when you put another sim into your phone that is when the sim is active, not the phone. Is that confusing?

The sim card doesn't serve a purpose. I have mine out now. If you were to travel somewhere without sprint service; you could use another providers service by inserting there sim.
Have you ever brought an unlocked phone to europe? You use their prepaid sims and it works fine, hence Quad band.

the SIMs probably won`t active when roaming. Try going to a GSM only area, and see what happens maybe

The sim is the most important feature in the worldwide aspect of this phone. In a gsm area your sim card will pick up that network, there is no need to use a different sim card. However, if you dont want to pay Sprint's worldwide rates then you would use the sim card from the area you are in.

    I hope this helps...

The 8830 cannot receive GSM signal in the US so placing a SIM in it in the US is pointless
