    Well with pictures of the 8830 being tested, is there a specific release date on it yet? Other than the july 07 mentioned on the web site?

    that 8830 is pretty sweet it will switch from CDMA to GSM Networks they had it at the sprint nextel deal I was at the other day

    Unfortunately the 8830 wont switch between GMS and CDMA while in the US, it will only work in all other GSM countries. Did the reps at the local store tell you that?

    I hear a $69.99 "worldwide" data plan which does not include PAM is required for all users of this device. I hope that proves untrue.

    So it cannot be used with AT&T or Tmobile service in the US even though the GSM is unlocked? How does it knows it is inside US? Can it be switched to GSM mode inside a shielded room?

    I think the GSM frequencies in the us are different from the bands overseas.

    Correct. 850/1900MHz in North America, 900/1800MHz everywhere else in the world.
