Out of service area delivery of POP3 email

I have a client who has a BlackBerry Pearl with Verizon. We have configured her Verizon account to forward her POP3 email. This has worked really good in the past. Recently as she has travelled she has encountered areas where she has no service for her BB, and of course no email delivery. Hence, she has missed some important emails from being delivered to her on the road. My question is this, how often does the BIS try to deliver POP3 email as it comes in? Once, twice...? Does it only try to send it as it comes in that first time and if not successful that's it, no second chances? Curious as to the fine details of BIS & POP3. Thanks.

It should usually keep trying untill the email has been delivered to the device, does she have roaming availiable because as long as she is on a network that has data connection she should be able to receive he email.
