    Question Is BIS operator independent?

Very new to Blackberry. Just got a new 8700 and would like to use BIS.

My operator has only started with providing BlackBerry and related services several weeks ago and at the moment focuses on BES for bigger business clients. The customer support did not even know wat BIS is, so if availability depends on my operator I am afraid I could not use it.

Will I be able to use BIS directly from RIM or a third party provider?

    Thanks in advance for help

If your service provider can provide you with a data plan, which I'm assuming they could, because of BES, then you should be fine...

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~my company uses BES but I use BIS. I have a data plan & BIS is part of that plan. I see no reason why you couldn't do the same. BTW I'm on Verizon if that makes a difference.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~i would have them contact RIM on your behalf. They need to have their own domains setup by RIM. As in, tmo.blackberry.net for example.

BIS is carrier dependent, but it is hosted by RIM.

Find your carrier's BIS site and log on.

Just because a service rep doesn't know it exists doesn't mean it's not there.

    czech, welcome to PinStack.

I would follow Lewis' advice. What is your carrier, maybe someone here knows the URL for the website. But you do need a Blackberry Data Plan from your Carrier. They should at least know how to add that to your account.

I have to say, desiskywalke, that in my experience, BB will send you lots of automated emails that will get you no further forward and will send you back to your provider.(You haven't got one? Then they will be no help at all....)
