    Gmail setup problem

i haven been trying over and over for the past week or so to set up my accout with my 8120 and still nothing

i have followed the instructions exactly and nothing

these are the steps i follow
    1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings.
    2. From your BlackBerry home screen, select the BlackBerry Set-up icon, then choose Personal Email Set-up. (On older devices, just look for the Personal Email Set-up icon.)
    3. Select Personal Email Set-up.
    4. Accept Terms and Conditions.
    5. On the 'Email Account Set-up' page, enter your full email address (including '@gmail.com' or '@your_domain.com') but leave the 'Password:' field blank. Select Next.
    6. You'll see a screen that says 'We were unable to configure [username@gmail.com].' Select I will provide the settings to add this email account, then Next.
    7. Select Internet Service Provider Email (POP/IMAP), then Next.
    8. Select I will provide the settings to add this email account, then Next.
    9. You'll see 'The BlackBerry Internet Service could not configure [username@gmail.com] email account.' Select Provide The Settings to continue.
    10. In the 'User name:' field, enter your full email address (including '@gmail.com'). Google Apps users, please enter your full email address at your domain. Then enter your password in the 'Password:' field.
    11. In the 'Email server:' field, enter 'imap.gmail.com,' then select Next. Google Apps users should enter the server name provided; don't add your domain name in this step.
    12. If IMAP access was successfully configured, select OK.
    13. Below your newly added Gmail address, select Edit.
    14. Select Advanced Settings at the bottom.
    15. Make sure the port is set to '993' and 'Use SSL' is set to 'Yes.'
    16. Select Save.

after many unsuccessful tries, i am doing a battery pull right now and am going to try it again. i have also changed my password for my gmail account cause that worked for other people.

Why not just go to your BIS website and setup your gmail there.

wow! I did not go through all that. I remember that setting up my gmail was really quick and very painless.

    Sorry you are having issues.
I did as DJ suggested above. Through your carriers BIS site set up the account. I think that the only thing that I had to do on the Gmail site was to enable POP.

Good Luck. If you have any questions about this just post back and hopefully we can help get you rolling.

Setup your Gmail on your Blackberry in Five Easy Steps:

1: Click your "Personal Email Setup"

2: Click "Add An Email Account"

3: Fill in "Email Address" (Full email address)

    4: Enter your "Password"

    5: Click "Next"

All Done, "Your email account has been setup successfully" before you even get out of that setup feature you should already have received a contratulatory email from the "Activation Server"

I just setup one of my gmail addys by using the procedure above...

I've tried both IMAP and SMTP setups on Gmail, and frankly prefer SMTP - and it's a LOT easier to set up!

If you are setting this up on your Blackberry via "Personal Email Setup" or your BIS, you don't need to be concerned with SMTP, IMAP, POP3 or any of that. Just follow the instructions given above and all will workout just that easy. No, if you don't have a Data plan, than you should see a "Personal Email Setup" Icon. But just follow the Five easy Steps and you're done. Forget about Communication Ports, SMTP, IMAP, POP3, none of that has nothing to do with setting up email from your Device.

When you refer to SMTP do you mean POP3 or HTTP?

IMAP >>>>> POP. Just my opinion. I don't know about you guys, but I hate having to open every email TWICE.

Enable only the one you're using. I've read about users who lose emails when both are enabled.
