    Emails sent to SMS Folder

New to the site and just received my Curve 8300 a couple of days ago. I have set up my gmail acount on my phone and it works fine but I am also receiving the same messages on my text/SMS folder. I'm afraid that I might be charged for it since I only have the 200 mesages plan from AT&T. I would like to know how to disable this feature. I only want to receive my Gmail messages on the Gmail folder and not both the SMS text & Gmail folder. Please Help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick response. Are you sure it will not reduce my 200 messaging plan? Don't want to be charged if I go over 200 messages. Thanks again.

You're fine. To further answer your question, when in the messaging folder, hit menu>options>general options.

Scroll down to "SMS and Email Inboxes:" and make the option "Separate"

This will give you a folder for your sms/mms and a different folder for your other messgaes so you can better keep track.

Just to be safe -- I believe I saw a post a few weeks back that a stacker was getting a SMS every time they received a gmail - is that what is happening here? If so that probably would impact your SMS count. Please confirm.

Re: Emails sent to SMS Folder

Thats exactly what is happening Gary. I have already changed the option to "separate" but it still continues to send emails to both Gmail and messages folder. I also tried the Dimension ZEN theme like the other posts says but that did not work either. Any one else with a solution? Is this a Gmail issue? Thanks for everybodys help.

Re: Emails sent to SMS Folder

well go into your message (sms text folder) and look at the top to see where they are coming from. if its coming in the form of an email, thats ok because its email. if its from a number, then it will count as a text

sorry if i dont make since....never good to pinstack after the bar

Re: Emails sent to SMS Folder

But am I missing a point here, you said you had 200 messages right?
Isnt that the ones you send? Or does the ones you recieve count as well? Sounds pretty strange if it costs you money to recieve a simple sms.

You make a good point. Does anyone know if you get charged for both sent & received messages from the new ATT. Or do you only get charged for sent messages?

Re: Emails sent to SMS Folder

I am 99.99% sure that ALL US carriers count incoming and outgoing messages against your account.

Jolen - I just saw your update - I beleive there is a fix for this....I will take a look and post back shortly....

    EDIT***

    Jolen...

    1. Are you getting the actual email text in your SMS or are you getting a notice that you recieved an email? Are you forwading your gmail messages to your @blackberry address?
    2. Please try this. Go to your BIS page or your Email set up and DELETE your gmail account. Reboot your phone. Now see if you continue to recieve any text messages. If not, lets go back in and set up the gmail account again. Dont forget to filter out your @gmail address to prevent being sent copies of your sent messages.

    Post back your results :-)

Re: Emails sent to SMS Folder

Thanks Gary, But my newbie self just discovered something. I found out that I have 3 folders currently 1) messages folder (I'm guessing all messages goes here email, sms, mms etc.....)
    2) gmail folder
    3) SMS & MMS - text messages

Correct me if Im wrong but Im guessing that I am only getting charged for messages going to my SMS & MMS folder. What I originally thought was the messages folder (#1 above) was my text folder and I was going to be charged for all my messages there.

Now I feel like an idiot for starting this thread. Thanks for everyones help!

Re: Emails sent to SMS Folder

You are correct - Messages is a catch all. If you are not seeing these in the SMS/MMS folder then you are OK.

No worries and glad to have you in the family!

Oh man, what a crazy thing!
Up north here we dont even get charged for recieving MMS. We're even able to negotiate with the provider for better prices depending on what you use your phone for!

To bad for you guys in the states ;-P

PS. Glad it worked out for you!

Re: Emails sent to SMS Folder

Hey how are you? I just wanted to chime in, looking for maybe a little help. I too am having a similar "problem". Picked up the 8830 w/ Verizon service yesterday. I initially set up my @gmail.com email address during the BB initial setup, but then found and downloaded the GMail application from Google's web site. When an email is sent to my @gmail.com account, it ends up in two places on my phone.
    1. Through the GMail applicatoin
    2. In the "Messages" Folder (Icon looks like a mailbox w/ the flag up)

How can I stop the messages from going into the "Messages" folder? While the messages get delivered there much quicker than the GMail app notifies me, I prefer the tools available through Google's program, and do not like having to delete the same email from two locations.

I went into "Email Settings" and deleted the GMail account. The emails persisted.
I went into Options > Advanced Options and in one of the submenus found two listings for my @gmail.com account. I deleted those. The dual-messages persisted.
I did battery-pulls after both of the above mentioned attempts.
