    Dear Friends,

    I have just read and signed the online petition:

    "RIM BlackBerry Linux USB Driver Support"

    hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition
    service, at:

    http://www.petitiononline.com/bb1d1234/

    I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think you might
    agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and
    consider
    signing yourself.

    Best wishes,

    Robert Keshishian

    However, because there is no BlackBerry USB serial driver, it is impossible to even recharge the device
    over USB except from Windows
    not true;
    my kernel config
    .........
    CONFIG_USB_BERRY_CHARGE=m
    ...........

    Signed.

    You might also want to post this over at the Ubuntu Forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/), if you have not already done so... They have a pretty big userbase.

    My 8330 charges just fine in Gentoo. Petitioning RIM for Linux driver's seems relatively useless. I say this because RIM opening up drivers to Linux and open source will be a potential opening to trade secrets/os technology due to open source/gpl licensing.

    We may have to pool together on our own via our own research and reverse engineering to create our own drivers, much the way a lot of hardware compatibility issues have been solved for Linux.

    The user base compared to Windows/Mac for BB drivers, doesn't seem to be a huge thing.
