    Using Blackberry Maps and GPS

I was playing today and decided to see if I could connect my bluetooth Holux GPS receiver to my Pearl in Blackberry Maps

I paired the devices, then "turned on GPS" in BB maps and Viola..it works perfectly and mapped exactly where I was, even naming the street that I was on.

I tried driving with it and I am really impressed. It shows not only where you are and speed and direction, but what street you are on at any given time and also signals when cross streets are coming up.

I might just ditch my Garmin 60CS for this.

Also, all this runs in the background, so you can do email and talk on the bluetooth while the drvice is still mapping and navigating

    Jim

p.s. Now if it only would give me voice directions in my bluetooth headset...grin

It works great on the 8700 too. What GPS program are you running to see the maps?

I just subscribed to Telenav for $9.95/month and downloaded the mapping app for the Pearl. It is also pretty impressive as it gives you voice directions through the speaker phone plus you can dial into Telenav and speak a destination and it recognizes it and puts it into your profile...pretty impressive It also has all services, like food, gas, etc that you can find and go to. Even has a compass. I have only been trying it for about 20 minutes, cant wait to really drive and try it.

"and also signals when cross streets are coming up."

How does it signal you? (a beep?)

No, you do not need any subscription to use the bluetooth GPS with the Pearl and it works VERY well and FAST with the preinstalled Blackberry Maps app.

BUT, If you want something like voice driving instructions, then subsribe to telenav's service. They have an application for the Pearl and it is AWESOME. I love it!! Cost: $9.95/month, but well worth it.
