Different credit beraues(sp?) I bet. You would be surprised what you can find on your credit report and how different the three agencies can be.

    Zo

Just as an informational link, has nothing to do with this topic and wouldn't bother me if removed by a mod.

Under federal requirements all three reporting agencies are required to provide one free report to consumers a year. They do that through a website that will let you access all three agencies and print out a report.

More on Verizon's High and mighty security protocols:
(page 32 of the 50 page thread at crackberry.com)
    **************************************
    "Dear_____,

Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. We are happy to assist you with your concerns regarding the GPS functionality on your Blackberry 8830.

Verizon Wireless is committed to providing the very latest in products and services. However, at this time, the tool has not yet met our standards for performance, security and privacy. The GPS service that is native to the Global BlackBerry does not have the level of security, protection or performance that Verizon Wireless requires (security precautions are important to prevent unintended use or misuse of location data).

As you are already aware, Verizon Wireless is currently modifying its own location based mapping service, VZ Navigator, for the BlackBerry 8830. The plan is for VZ Navigator and certain third party GPS applications to be available for the BlackBerry 8830 this year. The Blackberry is currently GPS capable to support Enhanced 911 Phase 2 automatic location identification. From a performance perspective, Verizon Wireless expects its network assisted approach to provide more accurate and faster location information, and better performance indoors and in dense urban areas.

Verizon Wireless takes a very conservative approach to protecting customers? privacy. Any service offered by Verizon Wireless must pass testing and have the necessary security to protect customers from unintended identification. In addition to that, Verizon Wireless is very careful to only advertise the features and services available on the devices it sells to ensure that customers get what they want and expect when they purchase a new device. None of the Verizon Wireless advertising on this device referenced mapping tools.

    Sincerely,

    Verizon Wireless
    Data Technical Support"

Call me crazy but isn't a BlackBerry the MOST secure handheld device on the planet? Unless you want to argue with the Pentagon, that is...

Those are both product pages on Blackberry's website and niether page mentions the possibility of a carrier disabling the GPS functionality. The only two disclaimers apply to minimum software version required and to using 3rd party applications.

Verizon To Unlock GPS? 8330 Available To Business Clients?
    from
    http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...ad.php?t=70569

This information was just sent over by a member who prefers to remain un-named. If it all turns out to be true, then Verizon users may be rejoicing here soon. Will update more information as it becomes available.

    1. Verizon will be releasing their new VZ Navigator at the end of April. It will have 3d mapping, points of interest (food, gas and such). It will be VZ Navigator 4.0 and is in the final testing phase now.
    2. Within the 2nd or 3rd quarter (2nd quarter started in April), and after releasing the new VZ Nav, they will be anouncing that the GPS function on all VZW BB's will be opened for free app use. No more crippled GPS on VZW! Ya for us. She said they are testing their networks capability to handle the increase of data traffic from the free GPS use and so far it has been testing without problems.
    3. The BB Curve from VZW is currently available to business users for purchase and since I am one, she is getting me the internet page info to find it on.
    4. She is supposed to call me back tonight or tomorrow with the release date of the personal version of the Curve so I can purchase that (or I would leave VZW I told them). When I have that I will let you know but she said it was supposed to be in a couple weeks. More later hopefully.

J llama, I want rephrase what u just post about your credit suck, and ATT is charge you 750 dollars to deposit to become your carrier while Verizon cost you 100 dollars?
If yes, I am in really in bad shape with my credit. ATT never ask me for extra deposit while TMO and Verizon ask for 400 dollars deposit. Thats the reason I am stuck with ATT but thank god or fate may got me to the right carrier while other carriers dont do well in my area. Maybe ATT added new policy for bad creditors right after I join? I had bad credit for more than 10 years. So this sounds strange to me. Guess I will gonna stick with ATT for good since I dont want to shell out extra bucks just to join other carrier.

just another way they try and make us pay extra for something that they really don't have to pay anything extra for < we pay for the hardware in the phone>
