GPS for Blackberry Pearl without internet subscription?

I am going to buy a Blackberry Pearl with T-mobile service at amazon and I am not gonna subscribe for internet coz I can't afford to pay 19.99$ extra every month, but I am ready to buy a GPS Bluetooth receiver. Is there any software that I can use with this phone, for GPS. Could somebody tell me whether I can go for Blackberry pearl, can I use GPS software? Please help me, Thanks in advance.

No, you have to have an internet plan. That is how the BB downloads the maps in order for you to get coverage and directions to your destination.

Yeap, it's worth it to have data plan and t-mobile's data plan is the cheapest among others.

I cut my other monthly expense to get this data plan.

Try it for couple weeks, I bet you love it.

dnchari, welcome to PinStack. You are going to be severly disappointed in what your Pearl will be able to do without a Blackberry Data Plan. Perhaps not as bad as other Blackberries as the Pearl has more non data capabilities but even these will have limitations.

I just picked up the PEARL myself. I have lots of questions, but in relation to this one I'm wondering the same thing? I do have the data plan, and there is a built in mapping system on the PEARL. It says I can add a Bluetooth GPS, but there is no info on how to do this, which you should use, and who's software...

I'm apprehensive about the PEARL in general, thinking I need the MDA instead. It's only been a day but the web access is pretty slow..

But I'll save this all for another thread...

The software is also installed on the pearl. All you need to do is tether a bluetooth gps device to your phone and it will work from BB Maps. Do some research on which gps bluetooth receiver is best for you. If you feel you want an mda instead, get it. We're satisfied here.

DocTaKnoCk, You need to buy a Bluetooth capable GPS Puck, Pair it to your Pearl and go from there. There are many available GPS pucs on the market. Find one that meets your needs and price range and go for it.
