    Re: WiFi vs. EDGE

WiFi should be significantly faster especially if you are in a g or n network. Going from EDGE to WiFi will seem like night and day.

EDGE however will work in a lot more places than Wifi. If your carrier has good coverage in your area, you should have EDGE all the time. WiFi coverage area is very, very limited.

wi-fi is more for use in a home, hotel room, office, or anywhere with a wireless router in place. doesnt work like per say a 3g network. wi-fi is 10x faster then edge.

Places such as my colege campus have full wifi coverage. And great EDGE coverage as well, that is as long as you don't have a class in a basement clasroom. This semester all of my classes ended up being in basement classrooms. So I would love wifi on my BB because it would almost completely erase the dead zones where I am cut off from the virtual world.

    Re: WiFi vs. EDGE

you know I would honestly be ok if they raised the county OR state tax a little bit (not both lol) to offset the WIFI city-wide here. Say from 8 to 8.5 or something. I'm sure that most people would complain BUT it would be nice to have and cheaper for everyone since we shouldn't need RoadRunner anymore at home.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I believe that Philadelphia is also making the city totally WiFi accessible in the near future! I will definitely have to buy a version of the 88xx when it comes out on TMO! YIPPY!

~via BB(wap.pinstack.com) wifi would be great a great help in Asia, eg., Singapore where free hotspots are in abundance, & if you're on Rogers wifi blackberry could be even better because of the higher charges Robbers stick its customers roaming abroad!

Rogers disabled wifi on the 8800 since they don't want their price to go down

    Re: WiFi vs. EDGE

Wifi is certainly a lot faster than EDGE...

I dunno how long the WIFI vs. EDGE comparison will matter though. By the time BBs have WIFI, they'll likely have HSPDA as well...

WIFI vs. 3G is more interesting. Speedwise they're comparable, and you'll be able to move around on a cellular network as opposed to wifi.

The other thing about WIFI is that it kills cell batteries. I used to think WIFI on the cell would be the ultimate carrier killer, but then I tried it... I have a HTC 8525 that has both WIFI and 3G. The battery lasts about 5 hours on WIFI versus 3 days on 3G. Now I never turn on the WIFI unless I have to grab something off the local network. Actually sending myself an email with an attachment is even easier...

    Re: WiFi vs. EDGE

IMO, wifi has never really been an issue to me. Wifi is great for the speed and power users. But gprs becomes a workhorse for me when I do my work on my bb. I'm @ home right now, where wifi service is non existant. I'm surfing just fine while my buddy with his dash can't even load a page. If wifi becomes available in places where my phone doesn't have reception then Ill really push myself to get it. But seeing that gprs is everywhere, and wifi isn't, its not a good move for me. Its not how fast it takes me to log on, its the matter of just being able to access it. That's what an end user should use to determine if wifi is for them!
