just thought i'd start a thread to collect information on everyone's wifi/uma status...

if you have an 8320 or an 8820... please reply as i think it will me as well as others who are having difficulty with this...

please fill in the following details...

    - blackberry model and firmware
    - router and firmware
    - paying for tmo hotspot @home?
    - wifi/uma working successfully?
    - wifi/uma working at starbucks/borders?
    - using bluetooth at the same time?
    - did you use the device change wizard?
    - additional details?

    here's my profile...
    - blackberry model and firmware : 8320 v4.2.2.180
    - router and firmware - USROBOTICS USR8054 v1.67
    - paying for tmo hotspot @home? NO
    - wifi/uma working successfully? NO
    - wifi/uma working at starbucks/borders? YES, BUT THEN IT ASKS ME TO SIGN UP
    - using bluetooth at the same time? NO
    - did you use the device change wizard? YES, THEN RELOADED NEW FIRMWARE V4.2.2.180
    - additional details?
    - connects at home successfully only when all security is disabled
    - yellow icon "-" displays when connected through WEP/WPK security
    - DHCP enabled
    - QoS not available on router (not sure if that's important)

can people chime in and give their status? if you don't know the answer, just leave blank... i'm looking mainly to see what router has been successful...

    thanks.

    Re: wifi/uma status survey

    Here's mine:

    - Blackberry model and firmware : 8320 v4.2.2.180
    - Router and firmware
    -> Location 1 (home): Linksys WTR54GS Travel Router V1.1_01
    -> Location 2 (work): D-Link wireless access point DWL-2200ap
    - Paying for TMO Hotspot@Home? no
    - WiFi/UMA working successfully?
-> Location 1: Buggy/intermittent but usable UMA, WiFi connects fine, UMA switches on and off for no apparent reason. Handoff to EDGE works okay though.
-> Location 2: Very intermittent non-usable UMA (voice calls drop for seconds at a time). Might be same problem as at home but with poor handoff to EDGE.
    - WiFi/UMA working at Starbucks? Yes
    - Using Bluetooth at the same time? Yes
    - Did you use the device change wizard? No.
    - Additional details?
    -> DHCP enabled
-> QoS not available on home router that I can find.
-> BES Express with Exchange 2003
-> WIFI/UMA signal strength on BB8320 switches from 3 "bars" to a single bar for no reason with the device stationary. Often the 8320 then drops the UMA and switches to EDGE. At home I am never more than 15 feet away from the wireless router.
-> In my case UMA is not reliable enough. There seem to be many people out there that have no issues with UMA. Can it be my 8320 that is acting up?

    Re: wifi/uma status survey

    my wifi/uma is FIXED!! WOOHOO!!

    here's my new profile...
    - blackberry model and firmware : 8320 v4.2.2.180
    - router and firmware - LINKSYS WRT54G V8.00.2
    - paying for tmo hotspot @home? NO
    - wifi/uma working successfully? NO
    - wifi/uma working at starbucks/borders? YES, BUT THEN IT ASKS ME TO SIGN UP
    - using bluetooth at the same time? NO
    - did you use the device change wizard? YES, THEN RELOADED NEW FIRMWARE V4.2.2.180
    - additional details?
    - i shut off the tmobile signal and used the wifi signal exclusively and everything worked perfectly, including:
    - wifi/uma calls
    - browsing at dsl speeds on both the regular browser and opera mini 4 beta 3
    - gmail
    - google maps
    - corp email

hopefully this helps someone that is having the same issue... i guess my previous router was too old...

    - blackberry model and firmware : 8320 v4.2.2.184 (will be switching back to .180)
    - paying for tmo hotspot @home? YES
    - wifi/uma working successfully? SEMI
    - wifi/uma working at starbucks/borders? Yet to try
    - using bluetooth at the same time? Sometimes
    - did you use the device change wizard? No
    - additional details?

UMA is really a quirky/touchy setup. I wont deny that with all the complaints that I have with it from time-to-time, Ill continue to use it. Its a love/hate relationship. I use it mainly at work since there is a massive wireless network frying my brain. Ive noticed on multiple occasions that it will drop my connection and go to sos before going back to edge. Oh well. Eventually there will be an update that will make some of the issues less apparent. I can say that I've had more calls work than I have had not work. Ive had calls seamlessly switch, and I've had it sound like I have a bad stutttttttering problem. Sorry just switched to UMA...

Oh yeah, bluetooth seems to mess with the audio during a UMA call for some reason.
