WIFI is wireless internet from a wireless router or access point. Some youtube videos show the comparison of speed against EDGE. EDGE seems to be faster than WIFI, but it all depends on settings on Blackberry browser and on router. The Curve does not support 3G, so there is no comparison there. And calls are free only with a monthly subscription with T-mobile. I believe it starts at 29.99 a month, its called UMA. It basically uses the WIFI service your on to make calls for free with better signal.

    Pros-
    Better cellphone reception
Free calls w/ T-mobile monthly plan
Use Data on WIFI i.e (Browser, data used programs)

    Cons-
    A little slow compared EDGE
    WIFI is not everywhere
Free calls only if connected to a near WIFI spot

From my experiences and from running tests, WiFi is MUCH faster than EDGE. This is possibly because I have ports open on my router for gaming and torrents and such, but it's still faster.

its 10 bucks a month now for unlimited calling through wifi..... they just dont advertise it.

wifi and the curve is amazing. worth every penny. nothing like teasing someone who pays 3x as much for verizon and they cant get a signal, but you have 5 bars for the uma.

Agreed, I use UMA calling everyday and it is like having an antenna in the middle of my house, however the OP is an AT&T customer and cannot use the UMA feature, only WiFi for data, and I have seen posts with claims both ways regarding the speed issue.

WIFI and EDGE speed is going to be relitive to the amount of other traffic on the NW. EDGE at is fasted is 72 to 120kb, WIFI CAN BE up to 50mb on a G net work. I know the Curve is not capable of that speed even if it is the only thing on the NW. But Idealy WIFI will be faster, The Curve will have the lowset priority on the NW compaired to a Laptop.

Hi Evan, Sorry but you can't use the Curve as a WIFI connection for a laptop. If you have a data plan you can use it as a modem over EDGE, but as most laptops have WIFI build in, there was no provision made for using a Curve as a WIFI connection.
