~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ Unlicensed Mobile Access a.k.a. Generic Access Network. Wikipedia has an article on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_Access_Network. "... is a telecommunication system allowing seemlessly roaming and handover between [LANs] and [WANS] using a dual-mode mobile phone. BlackBerry 8120, 8320, and 8820 support it, if your provider supports it.

    Yes, it's Hotspot@Home.

    Re: What is UMA?

UMA is the technical term for the connection that allows voice calls to be transmitted over your WIfi service as opposed to network radio signals.

Hotspot at home is the name of the service that allows to have unlimited calls over that connection provided you pay 9.99 per line. If you choose not to pay the monthly fee you will still benefit from the increased coverage inhome, since you have the access point INSIDE your home (router) as opposed to the radio waves having to penetrate your house. This may or may not be beneficial to you depending on your current signal in home, however there you are.. Feel free to contact me with more questions if you have any.

NEWS: Hotspot at home is changing names VERY soon... that also means a few changes in service.. coming soon!

I'm very interested in hotspot@home, but kind of bummed that it's now $19.99/month instead of $9.99/month.

Will the new changes offer more phones? Will it be the same price?

The new changes will change the way H@H is thought of......Not sure whether it will affect H@H pricing but I do know more phones are supposed to be on the way but they are coming irregardless of the changes coming down the pipeline. We are not allowed to say anything concerning the new changes until after the 14th but it will change the way people think about wireless phones.

    Re: What is UMA?

Its more of a Voip, wifi, uma bridge more than anything.. Eventually youll have one phone to use out and about on a network, at home on wifi for free home calls, and all the phone calls will be forwarded to that phone.. home, business or cell. Its a one device deal and thats eventually what we all want anyways is it not? Its on its way and well let you know as soon as we can!

    Re: What is UMA?

As an update, it is now called "Talk Forever" and it costs $10 for unlimited UMA calls. They made the service a bit better too =) It no longer randomly drops calls.
