Thumbs up 8820 Wi-Fi speed increase in 4.2.2.184?

Yesterday I found a post on another forum about OS 4.2.2.184 for the 8820. Naturally, I grabbed it and installed it on my BB (AT&T) in spite of the comments about it being "slower" than previous versions. However, I'm not sure if it's just me, but I am 99% sure the Wi-Fi speed has increased greatly from what I was seeing in 4.2.2.169 (latest AT&T branded release). In fact, my 8820 appears to just flat-out be running faster in general.

Has anyone else tried the latest 8820 OS and had any positive or negative experiences with it? I would love if someone could confirm that the speed increase I'm seeing is real!

i saw the same posts and boygenious shows demos of wifi being the same as edge (in speed of loading pages), but when i used the 8120 whenever i was on wifi my internet was way faster than over just EDGE. as for the os,it was and 8120 on 4.3 and in my opinion it's a bad test for os 4.5, as it runs faster but seems to be prone to problems but nothing to do with your 8820 except the wifi.

Cavyman, I also have an 8820 and when I did the upgrade, saw an increase in speed and overall smoothness in general.
I thought it was just me!

I don't know about the 4.2.2.169 but since I've upgraded the 4.2.2.184, I noticed a big change on wi-fi. It is significantly faster and I don't mind using the wi-fi as much anymore.

Oops. How do we edit our posted message on the forum using BB? Anyways, yeah, it is faster. I thought something else was written earlier.

I am thinking about picking up an 8820 today. Where on the web can I get the latest OS?

There's a thread on here that lists them I think. I can't remember where though

Cool - I originally had an 8800 and decided to try a curve (8310). I had it for a week and couldn't wait to get rid of it. I took it back to AT&T yesterday and picked up an 8820 - happy again

Yeah the wifi is a bonus. I normally don't surf the net and when I do I'm usually at home. I kinda wish I got thr 8320 instead of the 8820 though. Not much of a difference but I like the shape of it more and it doesn't hurt my hands.

Well I'll have to try it out and see, using .169 file transfers on 802.11b were doing up to 30 K / sec., I'll check to see what 802.11g is doing then see if the upgrade speeds up either one

*Update: the speed on a very good connection to 802.11b was not measurably faster, topping out around the 30 k/s limit. My 802.11g router has some signal issues, but the 802.11b should not by any means be maxed out at these speeds. But of course, the top throughput is only one part of the process, the new OS could well be faster in the HTML rendering or other parts, and not in the top speed.
