Hi ellandry, just dry humor... Some stackers dont like Vista at all.

Im not sure what causes your problem but I will ask around. I dont have Vista, nor do I use 4.2 DM, but I will be glad to help you figure this out.

i got the free upgrade with my new dell laptop after doing a fresh format and full install other than a few quirks and some laggy wifi I like Vista so far. Just as many people complained about xp when it came out and like with anything there will always be tweaks, adjustments, etc Growing Pains

If you are an avid gamer i would wait. Vista is great for me, but all i do is surf, documents, and alot of photography. I love it for that! But my mean lean power machine(desktop) for BF2 and the like is staying XP. Too many issues to get everything working well. For me, at least.

I am waiting until Service Pack 2 comes out before I upgrade. I have several wireless devices I want to be able to sync with it. Plus I have heard a horror story from a friend's mother who bought a PC with Vista on it and the PC doesn't recognize the printer.

It would be a good idea for anyone thinking about Vista to spend some time and make sure there is driver support for all your peripherals.
For some older hardware support and drivers are just not available.

I'd say go for it. Dcook is right, make sure all your devices are supported. It is a great looking OS. You might have to go manually find the drivers for Vista compatability, but, you did with XP too! (Well, I beta tested it.) My vista is running no problem...

    Re: Windows Vista wierdness

I'd Suggest upgrading to DM 4.2 SP1 adn that will overcome a few problems with Vista.

    As for whether to upgrade:
IF you have older peripherals like printers and scanners especially look around for a Vista drvier for them, if you have a friend that has vista on a laptop, check to see if your scanner and/or printers work. Most digital cameras, PDAs, Blackberrys etc will work just fine.

Just a suggestion, you should try and stear away from onboard GPUs if possible, it is worth a few $$$ to put a 128mb nVidia or ATi GPU in there.

If your computer was designed for Vista then Vista is ok. I would not put it on a machine not designed for Vista.

I run Vista on 3 machines (2 Home Premium 1 Ultimate)
