Question Windows Code 10- device can not start

    Hey all,

I'm new to the bb world and having problems getting the my laptop USB to recognize my bb pearl. I was able to get it to work once, but it hasn't worked since. I have downloaded the most recent version of Desktop Manager from blackberry's website.

    Below is what I have.

    XP pro SP2
    desktop manager 4.2.2 sp2
    Cingular service
    8100 Pearl

    Attempts made to correct issue:
    uninstall software and restall
    remove battery and replace

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Search for "How To Upgrade OS When PC Won't Recognize the BB" or something like that. I tried finding it earlier and couldn't.

It is normal for Desktop Manager to not see the device the first time it's run. From DM's menu, select Options --> Connection Settings, then click the Detect button.

If that's not the problem, you have a more significant USB problem with Windows which can be difficult to deal with, but possible.

First, uninstall all BlackBerry software. Then open Device Manager. From Device Manager's menu select View --> Show hidden devices. Now, click on the + to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers, and Right Click on each device and select Uninstall until no USB devices are left. Reboot the computer, install Desktop Manager, and try again.

try to use new hardware wizard. I know there was a way to "force" connection on my treo - there has to be a way with the pearl.

You're not using a USB hub are you? Have you tried a different USB port? Different Cable?

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I'm not using a USB hub. I have tried all 4 USB ports on my dell laptop. I have tried all the suggestions and the only way I am able to connect is if I uninstall the device in device manager from any previous attempt, and remove the battery and reinstall it.

I spoke to cingular today and they told me to turn off the mass storage mode support. That didn't help much.

    Any other Ideas?
