Add me +1 on that. Free is Free and it works great. No nag screens either. Years back in a Forensic Course it was highlighted as good software that won't take over your PC.

Have you rebooted the PC and/or the cable modem?

This also an option, if you are using a splitter to connect your modem to the wall, you may have a bad splitter. You may also have a bad modem. When you connect your pc to the modem does the pc led on the modem flash?

I always wanted to run linux on my beast but always got turned off by the fact that I would have not been able to play my pc game (TF2 Half Life). Perhaps there is something I don't know? Can you please post the link for the linux download? Thanks in advance.
What's the matter? CIA's got you pushing too many pencils?

    Ohhhh Norton.....lol

Try this 1st because you need to DL 2 other files.

Open a cmd prompt, run in admin mode if need be.
    Type ipconfig/release (enter),
    Type ipconfig/renew (enter)
    Type ipconfig/flushdns (enter)
    Close and reboot PC.

If that didn't help, go to your device manager and highlight the network controller that you use.
Click uninstall, yes UNINSTALL, then highlight the "network adapters" click scan for hardware changes" windows will then reinstall the network card.
    Reboot and try internet again.

If that doesn't help, do these in the order given:
Power off PC. Power off modem and/or router for at least 3 mins (time it). Disc the network cable from the PC. Now power up the modem and/or router. Plug the network cable back into the PC. NOW power up the PC.
Wait until everything is running, Windows, etc.

Once you get the Internet back I want you to DL and run these files. They will repair anything that caused the failure to begin with.
Run both files and THEN reboot the PC.

    Get LSP-Fix from:
    http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

    Get Winsock-Fix from:
    http://majorgeeks.com/WinSock_XP_Fix_d4372.html

    That should do it.
Try the internet after each repair before going to the next.
( No reason to do the other once 1 of them fixed it).

DL and run the 2 files above no matter what!

    Let me know whats up.

    Yes you may Gary!
I used AVG free for aloooong time. I do have the paid AVG Pro installed on my PC too.
I still have it as a backup. For some reason it started giving too many false positives.
Not a problem for me since I know the files are quite perfect.
But when my fiance or her son would see the warning, they would auto delete the file, and when I came home I wondered why some of my stuff didn't work anymore...lol.
Now they know from now on to quarantine the files NOT delete them!!!

Thanks for the awesome guide... It was as simple as me forgetting to reset my cable modem... DOH!! Yet another reason why I love the "Stacks"!!!
