8100 won't charge with Windows Driver

I just found out this weekend that the standard Windows XP driver for a RIM Blackberry device will not charge the 8100. You MUST install the Desktop Manager software in order to have enough power to charge the device.

Bummer for those trips where you want to scam someones PC for a little extra juice before the trip home.

Re: 8100 won't charge with Windows Driver

Blackberry.com offers a separate install package that just includes the the Blackberry USB and Modem drivers.

I downloaded the driver package, enabled mass storage mode on my Blackberry, and put the drivers on my Blackberry's storage card.

Now, if I need to borrow a computer for a charge, I ask if the kind loaner minds if I just add a couple drivers. Then I plug in my Blackberry in mass storage mode, and install the drivers! It's far less imposing than installing the entire Desktop Manager.

    I hope that helps!
