    peter, welcome to pinstack

DM = Desktop Manager -- its a desktop tool/application you will need to load on your PC to update your device software and to add/remove applications and/or themes.

OTA = Over-the-Air -- to download an application or theme using your blackberry browser.

not all themes will be available OTA (which imo is the easiest way to download/install themes)

    DM instructions:
download theme to your PC (it will be in zip or rar format)
    uncompress the file
plug bb into usb cable and launch DM
double click application loader (depending on what version of DM you are using, you may need to then also click install new apps)
browse to find the alx file (was compressed along with cod file when you downloaded zip)
double click alx file to install using DM
finish running through the wizard and let the theme install.
    DM will reboot your device.
once it has been rebooted, go to options/theme to activate.

    thank you so much!

a few questions, is the DM software available on the cd-rom that came with the phone in the box?

also, couldn't i just go to the thread with the them i want and download it from my 8830?

here is a link to DM downloads, via the Blackberry.com site

personally, i would choose DM 4.5 or 4.6 as they are the most recent versions available.

and yes, you could do that ... as long as the theme you are wanting has an ota download available

you need this link for pocketmac
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/mac.jsp

as for an extractor, i am a new mac owner, so not sure how you would unzip the file ...im sure there is something out there that is a converter/extractor for mac, i just don't know the name

    Hi all,

Question: Is the amount of themes limited (on a BB 8800)?

    welcome to pinstack!

did you download the theme ota (over the air or wirelessly)? if so, and this is your first ota download, you will need to perform a battery pull reset. this should activate the theme for you. if it still doesn't show up under themes, then make sure the theme you downloaded is for your device and your device OS.
