Stuck at splash screen

Hello all
well I think my new to me curve 8310 is dead. Here is my situation. Prior to all of this the phone was working fine, all functions apps etc.

1 on pc udated desktop manager to 4.7
2 updated device os to 4.5
3 backed up device

After this phone is working fine.

Now for some reason I was unable to load media to my sd card via dm. So I decided to use my laptop which had the old dm 4.2 or something like that.

From there I was able to load ring tones and mp3 etc.
I then decided to load some jpegs for backgrounds etc.
Everything seemed to be going ok then I got an error message...sorry didnt think to write it down.
My laptop froze the blackberry froze and that was that.

Ive done several battery pulls and all I get is the at & t splash screen

Now when I try to restore it using my pc the dm doesnt detect it.

Additional background info

Phone is locked to at & t
I am awaiting unlock code from gsmphonesource
When I try all of the above using the at & t sim card , the phone will load up to the desktop screen, and the message states searching for networks. However the trackball is not responsive so I cannot access any of the functions on the phone etc.

I am hoping someone here can help me. Im desperate.

any help is greatly appreciated.

There are a few things we can try to get you back up and running.

When you did the OS upgrade to 4.5, did you have your media card in the device at the time?

First, we might need to completely wipe your device, then reinstall the OS.

First thanks RoGro for your reply
Okay I gave up this morning and left for work and the phone stayed home. I just got home now and looked at my phone ,and I cant believe it but it is funtioning again! What a relief! I just entered my unlock code and everything is up and running. Oh what a relief, I thought it was gone for good.
Im guessing that though the hour glass wasnt happening, the phone was still trying to boot up but was just taking a long time., I dont know how long it would have taken, but Im just glad it did.

Now to familiarize myself with my new phone. (Im an 8100 user)

thanks again for responding.
