Hola Jules! You are completely rigth about TELCEL attitude towards handhelds not distributed by them. It takes negotiation and some stubborness to get them to activitate the BIS. I have experienced the same with my 8700c. Be careful with using your Curve as a modem. You may get a nasty surprise in your next bill! Data connection when using it as a modem is not covered by BIS so you get billed as GPRS per bit rate. I'm getting my curve tomorrow at Telcel so I'll tell you later about my experience. Greetings from TABASCO! |

Hey Jules, thanks for the info, I just lost my mexican telcel cell phone and was wondering If I should buy an unlocked bb and then slide in a telcel sim on it, however after reading your post it seems like it would be quite expensive to get a data plan for it since they dont let u get it with the pre-paid service and their data plans (contract) are ridiculously expensive (5mp = approx 17 dlls, unlimited = approx 80 dlls). I guess I wont get to own to BB's anytime soon then =( |

Cabron (no manches con el nombre...haha), I am also in Mexico on Telcel...I have been using an AT&T unlocked Curve since it came out...no problems whatsoever as long as it´s unlocked obviously...just transferred my sim over that had BIS setup already. The data service you referred to is NOT the same as the service for BB: The Blackberry plan costs $300 pesos plus iva (tax) which for all my non pesos friends runs at current exchange rates at around $28 usd...pretty reasonable for unlimited data. The data plan that you quoted is for GPRS which would apply if you were using a Treo for example. Hope that helps...take the BB plunge, it´s really great...and make sure you get jivetalk for yahoo, msn, etc...chat. Saludos, julio |
