Yahoo!, MSN to join IM communities

Yahoo! and Microsoft today will begin limited public beta testing of interoperability between their instant messaging (IM) services that enable users of Windows Live Messenger, the next generation of MSN Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger with Voice to connect with each other. This interoperability -- the first of its kind between two distinct, global consumer IM providers -- will form the world's largest consumer IM community, approaching 350 million accounts, according to the companies. A new version of the Mac Yahoo! Messenger 3.0b was released last week, but does not yet include the integration, although the website promises forthcoming interoperability.

I'm wondering if this means that I can use Yahoo's BB client to talk to people on MSN once the system goes public?

I would say Yahoo needs to update the client for our berry's before you can take advantage of this. Also, if you have a windows pc, yahoo ver. 8.0 beta allows you to test this out already. When AOL and Google combine their IM networks, very soon as well, they will then be on top as the largest.

Re: Yahoo!, MSN to join IM communities

I finally downloaded the new Yahoo! for xp. I added a bunch of my MSN contacts. Then logged into Y! Messenger on my BB, and....no luck.

However, I'm going to finally announce that I'm officially switching! I'm sick of Microsoft's limited applications and refusal to make them friendly with multiple platforms.

    It's time for civil disobedience!

I just hope all the advertisments and junk the msn shows doesnt come over. That new messenger is really a non-stop advertising, even on your conversation windows... come on... no more!
