I was talking to people from TeleNav two weeks ago on a large computer fair in Germany and they confirmed that they are about to release an offline navigation based on maps stored on a memory card. AFAIK this will be the first offline navigation software for BlackBerry. I´m looking forward to ot as they brought the second quarter of this year as the release date.

By the way (for all Europeans): Here is the 5.1. OTA download for europe which is in a public beta.

I would find this pretty useful. I use Telenav as my main navigation application. Sometimes I just want to find a street or see where a road goes. That would be easier with a static map in memory. Good on ya' Telenav!

I feel like the direct connection actually kind of makes telenav unique! One thing that I am truly grateful for is the automatic map updates. And they’re free! A little while ago I posted on telenav’s forum about a road in my town that was not posted. Well, I completely forgot about it until I was looking for a restaurant on that road, and lo-and-behold it was there!

Is this feature available for the continental US, and if so, where can I download it?

If anyone is interested on how to add addresses and/or look up businesses on the web and sync them to their navigator’s “favorites”, here is the link: http://my.telenav.com
