#1 You need to run software on a host PC that runs Skype. If you have a laptop this could be a problem.
#2 When you call a skype user or a phone # via skype, it calls your cell phone so your minutes are still being used.

I'm using a laptop and it works fine. I also don't have a voice plan, just data.

So you have to DL the skype software? Does your computer have to on for it to work? What about international calls.....do you pay for them?

The PC has to be on for it to work. I use it for instant messaging only.

Yes, you have to pay for international calls. Here are the rates. http://www.skype.com/products/skypeo...all_rates.html and the rates for their other services http://www.skype.com/products/priceoverview/

    1. Why download another program just for IMs? I already have a program for AIM, G-talk, MSN and !Yahoo. The couple of people that I use Skype with all have one of the other IM services.
    2. If you're in the US, you can make outgoing calls from Skype to any number in the US for free till 12/31/06.

    I agree Dispatcher.

Calling to Canada is included in #2 above.

I think SkyPE, when used on the PC, is useful for people who don't have landline, but not so much for BB users at this time. Rates are higher than prepaid calling cards, and since it uses minutes on your BB, you aren't saving any $$.

I know a lot of the cell plans include free long distance and unlimited minutes so there's no use in having Skype on your phone.

Most people have a limited number of minutes available on thier phones but in my case, I use my BB mostly for Direct Connect and never go over my minutes so I always have minutes available to me for calls.

What I mean is that you don't always have your laptop on. And for this app to work you need Skype running. It would be nice if you could run Skype on a BB without depending on a laptop.

I was looking at the Skype website last night and saw that they have a Windows Mobile application. Wonder if they will do one for BB?

Download this one. It's free or you can pay for it. Look for WebMessenger Mobile for Skype for BlackBerry™ at the bottom of the page. http://www.webmessenger.com/products/mimskype.htm
