Before we all go installing it, how does it work? What are some good features? downsides?

I don't know though, will the processor be able to handle that kind of stuff to make a VOIP call?

I installed it last night and the chatting works, but I could not get the calling to work.
    According to the website:
WebMessenger Mobile for Skype - Free version
    • Click-to-Call - call your Skype buddy with a push of a button
    • Text chat
    • Add new contacts
    • Supports up to 20 buddies

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~i was thinking this wouldn't use minutes since I don't have a voice plan (only tmo data) but it does. My online bill showed $1 of calls from messing with it.

    Re: Skype for your berry..

I emailed Webmessenger about the calling issue and they said that I need to put +1 in my BB PSTN number on the desktop plugin so it would look like so +18005551234. And it works as advertised. But I don't see the value in this.
#1 You need to run software on a host PC that runs Skype. If you have a laptop this could be a problem.
#2 When you call a skype user or a phone # via skype, it calls your cell phone so your minutes are still being used.

yea, that really sucks then. skype needs to just make a client for the blackberry themselves. the main point of having a client on my phone would be so i didn't have to use my minutes

For me there would still be some value in this. If I'm phoning somebody long-distance, I would just pay the air-time minutes, no long-distance charges. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I emailed WebMessenger and they did confirm that the voice-calls incur regular air-time minute charges.

disclaimer: I have not tried this product yet.

Wow - this would be awesome if it didn't use your minutes. I have no use for it now:-(. I can call long distance with my current calling plan. So why would any wireless customer use this program besides for chat?
