Smile Roxio Media Manager Tips and Tricks

We shall dedicate this thread to all sort of fun how to's using the Media Manager 8 for Blackberry by Roxio
which is included in the Desktop Software 4.2 SP2 (also known as 4.2.2)

I'm not familiar with Roxio's applications so its all new to me.

first thing i saw under the file menu was projects> Multi Photo Enhance and Create Panorama

first we'll talk about multi photo enhance. You're able to do various things like
sepia, black and white, sharpen, flip, etc...Its not photoshop so were not talking bend and twirl,
    but its still pretty easy

    file>projects>multi photo enhance
it will walk you through the steps. Really easy
I haven't set up albums with Roxio so (with mass storage mode enabled on mem card on BB)
you can just click to the blackberry memory card like its an external hard drive
find your pics and you're off.

    Originals

    after editing

    its a really quick process.

now this is really fun and has alot of potential
    Create Panorama
    file>projects>create panorama
Basically pick some photos and "stitch" them together
Alot of digital cameras allow you to do this but not BBs. Untill now
I even used the same three photos from before
Although, you have to make sure the pics are the same dimensions.
Don't worry the app will not let you do otherwise just so you know.
So same as before, select your pictures follow the prompts and voila.

It does have some drawbacks that are easily resolved.
Set your focal length all the way to the right or you will have an old rounded tv screen look
Also it automatically tries to find the best match so the pics may look jumbled
Just manually drag them to line up at the top and bottom or you may "chop" part of your pics

here is how my 2 min test worked out
before we have three seperate pics

and after we have a stitched together panoramic shot from three different pics

this was all in my first time playing around with Roxio, i will def find plenty of more cool and
easy stuff to do. Feel free to add your own ideas...and remember there are Audio and other portions of Roxio we need to cover

Re: Roxio Media Manager Tips and Tricks

So i just realized Roxio has an app called Photosuite bundled in the software as well.
Here is where you can do all sorts of crazy things
Lots of great filters like different colored emboss, twirl, warp, distort, all the really nice goodies one comes to expect from a good photo editing application

Thanks for info! This is obviously a great app with a lot of potential, and I'm glad you did much of the early 'delving' into it for those of us who are time challanged

Re: Roxio Media Manager Tips and Tricks

So i converted a music video just to test out as well.
I kind of bypassed Roxio's UI and just opened up where my music video was on my harddrive,
made the window halfsize, and just dragged the video into the bottom portion of Roxio. (on to mem card on BB) I guess i could have gone through the drop down file system on the far left but i like to try all kinds of possibilities.

So once you drop the file onto the BB, Roxio then asks if you want to convert the video.
It gives a few options: Optimal, no converision, and advanced.
Optimal - is the automatic conversion.
    No conversion is self explanatory.
Advanced lets you change various settings like screen size
    simple resize (may stretch video)
same aspect ratio (will fill empty space with blackbars)
    Crop (fills screen)
And yes the controls from the video player are still there while watching.
Then you can set the quality size which will change the size of the file itself i believe.
So i transfered, converted and then watched a music video on my Pearl in about 5 min, and
only had to push two or three buttons in Roxio.

    Pretty easy stuff

Yeah, thanks for startin' this thread J. I've been messing with this thing for a couple of hours now and you can do all sorts of stuff with this Roxio. I don't like the fact that you have to turn on mass storage because I like to check things on my phone, on the fly to see if a video works or what a wallpaper looks like. Now, you can't do that. But overall, I'm loving what you can do with all of the media.

if you double click a video (or right click then select preview)
while playing the video, you can extract an image.
    Roxio takes a snapshot.
Choose the format you want the pic to be and where to save

Re: Roxio Media Manager Tips and Tricks

Has anyone figured out how to get your microSD to show up in "My Devices" on your 8830? At one point it showed up and I was able to drag items to my microSD but now all I see is Device Memory in the list. I upgraded to the latest Device Software from RIM and download the 8830 device install from Verizon but it sill doesn't show up. I have tried all the options on the phone as far as mass storage support but it will still not show up. If it would show up I would be able to drag videos to my microSD and it would convert them. Thanks for any help

number one tip for using roxio media manager: don't. it's bloated and inelegant. i don't need a 170mb program to drag and drop files to and from my bb. i had it installed for a couple of hours and flat out hated it. just my opinion...

Re: Roxio Media Manager Tips and Tricks

I found the solution to my problem on RIM's website under:
    Doc ID : KB11883
I had to re-format my microsd card and set it to prompt. Then connect the cable and just ignore
the yes or no question on the screen and it now works.

aye, i do not plan on using this app much at all... although i am very interested in its video conversion abilities... i'm trying to find out if it can do a better job than seabyrd's or not... otherwise, it's a lot easier to just drag & drop directly
