    Hello everyone I am kinda new here, i come every now and then to see whats up.. But I am starting something for my BB. I see everyone out there asking for multi player online games for there BB. Well I don't know much Java, so when I started reading on how to make games for the BB through Java, I basically gave in. But I am very good at PhP/MySql/Html. So I decided to start a sort of game through that. I understand its not the same graphics and all, but its a start right?

    Well the game is called "Roman City Mobile Game," pretty self explanatory right? Indeed, it opens up as the Roman Empire is in Augustus 10, 10 BC (Augustus is Roman for August -- which is my birthday heh ), and its at a Civil War. People are to register to make there own Gladiator, and fight for pieces of land. I want to make it as realistic as possible, so you will build your character based off of what metals you can get to make what armor, and weapons. The money will not be in Dollars, it will be in Late Empire Coin Values. I want to make quests with Roman gods and high ranking warriors as NPC's.

    Well what I am trying to get at is it a good idea? If I were to make this, and have it be as it sounds would anyone play it? It will be free of course, no ads (except the required ones from free hosting and free domain name -- but they are very small and at the very bottom). I am trying to keep the pages as compact as possible, so its less scrolling but in some cases its just not possible.

    The game is actually online right now, not fully functional, you can register but I am going to disable it as of right now, because I am not done making the MySQL tables, so it would be very sloppy if I didn't.

    You can view the website on your blackberry at http://wap-rcmg.co.nr and you can access online at http://rcmg.co.nr. This website was designed for the Blackberry Curve 8310 (AT&T), so I am not sure what all phones its compatable with. Sorry

    Also if anyone would like to help me at any time, im taking all the help possible. Anyone that knows roman background, or is any good with PHP/MySQL/Html that wants to help out, or just some people with ideas, please share them! I need all the help I can get if I am to pursue this idea.

    EDIT: I also need someone who knows how to make a basic program to load from the BB that can have it sort of like the pinstack program. Where it loads it up immediately from starting that program. Thanks !

    Features:
    • Traveling System - I have enabled it to where right now, it just says "Rome" as the home page. When you travel to say France or Pompeii then it would change your home page to those city's and would change the information of that time's era.
    • Events System - This is special events where as the game progresses and builds with new members, then each city would be able to select a new queen and king! Read more about it below.
    • Items/Equips - Basically where when you get any items you can equip them, and it edits your players stats. Making it either stronger, or weaker depending on what you equiped.
    • Slots(On your items) - You can add specific items to your weapons/armor and increase the defence/damage that they indure.
    • King/Queen System - If your elected king/queen then you get to maintain your city. You can manage the tax price, whether school is free or not, your military/navy, and much more. But for that city to have a king/queen it must grow in population (You will be able to start your own city with its own name using an item and some money). Main city's won't have a queen/king all moderators of the game will be automatic king's/queen's of those city's.
    • Money System - The money system is in old roman coins. Thats the basis for now, once i get most of the game made ill be changing the money system to change your amount of money depending on what city your in (realistically you'll have the same amount, but in that city's prices.)

    I have currently finished the currency, and am going on to make the equip (like armor and weapons etc). Thanks for the support, and for the information!

    This sound awesome! I've alway believed that I would be a good game tester so if you need some beta tester, just let me know!

    Unfortunately I do not have much experience with HTML and none with the other language. But I believe that I do generally have a good concept of how things can be set up in a game and how to optimizes the general gameplay concepts.

    P.S. I'm currently unemployed so you can expect quick responses from me once I finish with my move to a roommate apartment cause I have too much free time otherwise lol.

    Ahh excellent!

    Well i have been having trouble with the register so as of now you can only register a person in Firefox, on a desktop/laptop computer. And curious you mention a lot of free time? How about thinking of a few ideas, if you may? I have some but it doesn't seem like its enough to me.

    Yeah I do have a few little ideas but I would need to know more about the game first so my suggestion wouldn't change the game from the creator's vision.

    One suggestion though is that I see a lot of odd numbers for different currency like 1 solidus = 12 silqua or 1 solidus = 7200 nummus.

    My suggestion is either ...

    round the number up like 1 solidus = 10000 nummus

    or

    use the lower currency as the currency of particular district like how the poor area are more like to use nummus than solidus. So the currency would be changed to match the poor area currency. For example, if you are in the lord palace and have 37 solidus, when you enter the poor district, the 37 solidus become 266400 Nummus.

    The point of this is to remove the mathmetical crunching that would be necessary otherwise. We want to maintain the good gameplay and not have to force players to have to calculate such odd conversion all the time which would make it more work than the game is worth.

    Though the historical accuracy is important, if you want Better gameplay, I would recommend that you remove all the extra coins and instead use Nummus as the main currency so it would be easier on everyone and the server (less calculations to purchase and sell).

    I hope that this would be helpful and that I could find out more about the game so I could offer a better suggestions and idea for it.

    It does help, and I was actually considering this earlier, when I realized why we would be using so many different currencies anyway? I'll take them out, and if we have an idea that can use them all, ill consider putting them back in.

    Any way I can learn more about the specifics of the game and your fuller idea/concept of the game?

    This will help me come up with more ideas that would works with the game.

    New Suggestion -
    Travel cost?
    Since it will be in Roman time, there are no way to get to town instantly. Since it might not be a good idea to put a time limit on the travel, why not a food/health cost?

    Doing this could help filter out the weaker/poorer players from going to the more dangerous/expensive places.

    Food can be used as the travel cost to save your health since most travel back then requirs footwork.

    There could also be a bonus area of skills for player, player might be able to make a profit by setting up a cart, chariot, or elephant escort and reap the benefit from this. The purpose of such an escort is to allow players to get to places through money cost rather than health cost (would be good for weak but rich player and warriors who want to be in perfect health when going to a battle).

    Keep in mind that it would be more realistic to have a bandit random event for the travel, the more expensive your escort is the more likely it is to be attacked, the only way to counteract this is to hire guards (another good way to give lower levels player get some extra money (though at risk))

    As you can see, travelling can be an business in it own when it comes to money making and training for lower lvl players.

    Might be complicated to set up so this suggestion could be out on hold till later when other parts of the game have been filled out.

    Oh, the lower lvl escort, the shorter distance they can go and more likely to have a breakdown.

    For example, a simple hay cart could be the cheapest of them all but it would only save PART of your health cost since the cart are more likely to stop at their farm on your way.

    The local merchant cart goes from village to village and are the next lvl up.

    And so on.

    If you want, e-mail me and i'll type up more explanations and ideas once I learn more about the game without having to spoil the suprise or expectation.

    It might not be a good idea if someone offers a really good idea HERE and unfortunately it would not be feasible for the game to incorporate the suggestions. Might make some players confused or dissappointed at the suggested feature not being there.

    Just speculating though, (about the suggestion dissapointment thing).
