    Question Oz instant messenger help...I challenge you

    So here is my situation...I recently received a replacement pearl 8100...I backed up and restored my previous phone (8100 pearl) just before making the switch. I was able to use the OZ instant messenger just fine prior to the switch...once i restored everything on my new phone i noticed that the Oz icon reverted back to a globe icon which it suggest downloading the OZ messenger app...I found it a bit odd but i did...now it states that "the app is only for the 8100. the device i'm using is not supported"... i then called t-mobile who tried to trouble shoot the issue by registering the new phone and sending me the service books...that didn't work...then they transferred me to a RIM rep. and he said the only way they could help me is if i had a data plan which i don't and never have; which is why i want my OZ working again... Now yet another t-mobile rep told me she doesn't understand why it was working in the 1st place. For the record I have/had the 4.5 os on both the new and old phones and it worked fine on the old one just days ago. she suggested that if i downgrade back to 4.2 (which is where they are still at) it might work again, other than that she can't help me either... So now i'm here hoping you folks may have a solution before i actually do this downgrade... forgive me if i seem frustrated but i just spent 45 min. bouncing from 3 t-mobile reps and a rim rep without a solution so unless you know of a free non-data plan software please don't also tell me to get a data plan instead, or suggest software that require it cause i've already searched around. i never go over my min. or messages which is why this works fine for me. so does anyone out there have this problem or have any ideas?...thanks.

    I was never able to get the OZ client to work without a data connection. Sorry.

    i was always able to use it without it; that was the beauty of it, even after upgrading from 4.2 to 4.5.

    You need to call TMO Support and ask them to add the blackberry enabler service - at least that is what they used to call it and it was no cost as I recall. That should allow you to use the OZ application as well as T Zones and MMS (they will charge for DATA usage , OZ uses SMS so you are OK there)

    Well according to the T-mobile handset rep she was a bit dumbfounded as to why it worked to begin with . She said it may have been a glitch in the system that allowed me to use it. I told her that I have been using it for the past year without a problem. She also said it would be hard to troubleshoot since i have the 4.5 os and they are still on 4.2...her recommendation (which I'm considering) is to downgrade back to the t-mobile 4.2 os and that might enable it again....by the way, I am still able to use t-zones...this was a replacement pearl that they sent me and once i did the re-installation of all my software the oz app reverted back to the download icon. ironically, by checking the options menu under applications it doesn't show that it has it...and it's not in my download manager either which it used to be...i don't want to downgrade but i will as a last resort, there isn't that big of a difference for me anyway (since i don't use a data plan) other than installing animated themes. I was hoping someone in here new of a way to download it online and install it through download manager.

    I had to downgrade one time to correct an issue and all I saw were the oreloaded RIM clients, nothing from OZ. That's why I was surprised you were able to use it.

    well it could also be that t-mobile just stopped servicing that app; but i would think they would make some kind of announcement if that were the case. i guess another option would be to sign up with a data plan download the software and then cancel the plan right away...i'll call them up to see if that's possible without getting charged for the entire month for having it.
