from berryreview just stambeld with it great app Free up to 5MB of memory. MaxMem clean up your BlackBerry from unused applications, themes, and files that come preinstalled. Enjoy more memory and slightly faster speed. FREE!
Platform: All BlackBerry Handheld
Operating System: 4.2 And Above
MaxMem free up BlackBerry memory by deleting unused COD files that are preinstalled from the BlackBerry operating system. Currently, there are 9 remove modules in the newest MaxMem release, version 0.3.
Up to 5MB of free memory can be realized after running MaxMem.
Pop up approval notice for every COD file that will be deleted.
Remove VAD (Voice Activated Dialing) - Usually activated by pressing the default assigned left convenience key. Make call by using voice recognition. The About item in the Option will also be deleted because it is located inside the VAD. BlackBerry OS and build can still be seen by pressing ALT+SHIFT(left)+H together on the keypad.
Remove PTT (Push To Talk) - PTT is available on AT&T network only (As far as we know) and is preinstalled in AT&T BlackBerry device. So, if you are going to use the device on other networks, you can delete this feature to save more space.
Remove T-Mo Fives - Normally found on T-Mobile device. The feature is usually consisting of icons, etc.
Remove MDS (Mobile Data Service) - MDS is only used by BES user to push data from their BES enabled server. Delete this if you are on BIS network.
Remove Media - Delete media like default wallpapers, music, and videos.
Remove Default Themes - This module removes vendor themes except Dimension Zen. Note: some custom-made themes depend on vendor themes to work so don't use this option if you like to install custom-made themes.
Remove TID - (Experimental) Delete linguistic data used by SureType, SpellCheck, etc.
Remove Foreign Resources - (Experimental) Delete language translation.
Remove RIM Internal Tools - Remove quincy, bug report, battery log, etc. RIM Internal Tools usually comes in package with beta operating system that RIM used to monitor the OS performance remotely. Delete this if you are not officially approved to use the beta OS.
Install MaxMem from http://berrycoder.com/maxmem.jad.
Back up BlackBerry device using desktop manager.
Set your current theme to Dimension Zen. The purpose is to avoid any error if the current theme is accidentally deleted. Dimension Zen can’t be deleted by MaxMem.
Run the MaxMem application (Mammoth icon).
Click on the remove module that you want to use. Make sure you read the definition above for each module.
Question 1 is about data base back up. Answer yes only if you have already backed up your device or you know what you are doing.
Question 2 is about disclaimer. Answer yes if you agree.
Question 3 will be asked for each cod file that MaxMem will delete.
Restart after you are done.
COD files that are deleted by MaxMem can be restored by running application loader from desktop manager but you do need to install BlackBerry Handheld OS first in your computer.
BerryCoder hold no responsibility for any damage to the handheld due to the use of Maxmem.
sweet... can never have too much free memory...
i see RED...
great for me its clean 4mb and its after i do all the cleaning before like the vad and ptt
this is a good program however it does have it's drawbacks. if you use your app loader in your desktop manager it will load back everything you deleted with the program. if you use the app loader a better solution is removing the cods from the java folder,if you're comfortable doing so.
This app is not new and has been posted many times. Just be aware that removing the .cod files can cause other issues. Removing the dimension themes can make other themes not work. Removing preloaded ring tones can mess with your profiles and your ability to use custom ring tones for contacts. Removing VAD will make it so that you can't open "About" in options but there are other shortcuts you can use to access the info. There may be more.......
Anything you remove is fixable as long as you have the Desktop Manager and your BB OS installed on your computer, but we just want you to be aware of things that can happen as a result of using the app for troublshooting.
to me it dosnt made any of that you mention
i can open about
i uses my custome rings i remove the vad and everything its as before
Well I am speaking from my own experience and the experience of reading many, many threads where people post about these same and other results from messing with those .cod files.
Also if you do have the BB OS installed on your computer and you use maxmem to delete modules from your BB, then every time you use the apploader/DM it will most likely try to put those missing modules back on your BB unless you have removed them from the java folder on your pc.
I'm not saying don't use the app, just letting you know what can happen so nobody comes back frustrated later when other things are not working right. Anyone who spends much time on the forums knows that everyone can have different experiences. Especially when there are so many different device models and OS versions around
I agree with azstar on this one... If you've been around on the stacks long enough, you'll realize that the results are almost never the same for everyone... So depending on which OS you have, what device you have, what version of dm you have installed, do you have an os installed to your pc, if you have a simulator installed, what version of windows you use... Etc etc etc...

But if it does, that's great...

Worked well for me - got rid of VAD (OS .174 now) and can open "About" just fine. Removed MDS, and pre-loaded pics and videos. Freed up almost 10mb. Thanks!

Yep, gotta go with Az, I have also used this program on 3 different phones, and have done it different ways...
I have ran into not being able to edit ringtones, and lost the about, though i dont know if it was when i ran VAD or help files...
Dont konw if they have made some updates in the last 6th months or so or not, or maybe its the newer phones that are not having problems...
But i know they do on 8310s with both 4.5 110 and 4.3 OSs
Not saying its bad, just saying I dont do all the options... Do love PTT removal... and Vad i dont use, and some other things
It takes many professionals versed in many different area's to help the masses, I am just a single drop in that pool.
I've been using MaxMem ever since it dropped and I'm fine. Love the app!!!
T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro2 & I'm not coming back! :D
