    Lack of software on BB

I used my BB for roughly 3 months now, I am a previous WM device owner and I hated their OS with passion, it lag, it crash, it doesn't even do phone right...

Anyways that's besides the point here
One of the thing I loved about BB is the great OS and everything that's are stacked with, they just work wonderfully, and the keyboard of course... However, I starts to see one huge glaring problem with BB, the 3rd party software lineup, its non existence almost

When I was with WM, there's billion of software, useful one to garbage ones, free or charged. However here with BB side, there almost nothing here? Even the most important pre-set profile changer is nowhere to be found... Why is this? I believe BB has a huge user base but yet I don't see any program out there in the market at all?

I am actually thinking to switch back using HTC touch just right about now, I missed all the software I can find in WM but I hate using that crapisstic OS...

Re: Lack of software on BB

You have to remember, the BB was used mostly for the corporate world. I just finally came to the general consumer market. With that it will slowly begin to build a base for software.

I'm not really sure what software you're looking for, but I have found most everything I need when looking for software.

Is there something in particular you're searching for?

I understand your feelings about the lack of preloaded software, but that in itself would not make
me turn from a BB to any other device. There are too many free apps out there available for download
and for me personally that is part of the fun...downloading these apps and being here on the Stacks and finding more all the time

Not sure if you were aware you posted this in the 3RD party apps section. There are tons and tons of various software listed in this directory alone. You just need to browse through and look around.

For me, one thing is dead certain: NOTHING would make me revert to software that crashed, all the time ...or I would not be using Linux <-- Windows or a BB <-- win mobile.

Fact is, I have come to use the BB 8100 98% of the time, rather than the PC (even though I love Linux and software not found on Windows).

    The bottom line: Stability RULES!

I moved from Nokia 9300 to BB.

My biggest issue is the lack of word/spreadsheet progs available. Most are extremely expensive, and not so easy to use.

I'm in the exact same situation as the first poster. I totally agree. but remember - tweaking your phone's OS is exciting until your stuck in north philly at 3am and you have to Hard Reset to call 911 because your new WM6 theme is snaged. As they say, speed kills

AMEN!!! I totally agree!!!! Everyother day I find something new and what's even better USEFUL!! Before owning my BB I didn't really know to much about PDA'S and what they were capable of. I stumbled on viigo and that app is great! especially at work when I'm just sitting around! Just thought I'd throw all that in there, even though it has really nothing to do with the topic! Sorry!

You can change your profiles, scroll to the volume icon, click, then scroll to the bottom to "Advanced" then you'll see all the profiles you can edit.

I'd have to agree with you on the 3rd party apps. Although, recently, I do believe RIM and other companies are seeing the BB as a consumer product, and there have been more programs released. Check out http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...ad.php?t=30858 for a list of great apps.

I have to agree, it would be nice if Blackberry bundles their phones with a mobile office software ( word processor, spreadsheet) . There are a lot of nice software for the blackberry.

Its exciting to use a mobile device where the community is developing their applications for it. Blackberry communities are like that.

My dream software would be a blackberry version of TCPMP.

4.3 OS seems to have a Word application. Don't know how will work and if will make it to the final release. Saw it on a preview video at YouTube. It might be a bait for people interested to buy the full office product. It seems that is Documents To Go.

Re: Lack of software on BB

Having started with a grayscale Palm and moving to a Pocket PC, and a brief flirtation with a Symbian device (Nokia E62) I thought the lack of 3rd party s/ware (by comparison to the other platforms) would bother me. What I have found is that even though there is less 3rd party software available for the BB, the software I have downloaded for my Pearl, I actually use.

The only thing I'd like to see is something like "Remote Desktop" for the Pocket PC.
