New BB owner here...installed the gmail app on my 8130 and wanted to know if it's secure. Is my password that I'm entering to access my mail secure and encrypted?

Is anything that passes through your cellphone secure? Honestly? Is anything that goes through your home computer secure? Are you using windows? Is it secure?

I'm guessing you get my drift. It is secure to the extent that you are a private individual and no one really wants to know what you are saying... But then on the other hand maybe you are the head of the Pentagon and someone REALLY wants to know that you are saying.

The security of your information is directly proportional to the pains you take to encrypt it or the ease with which you can access it, and inversely proportional to the determination of the people who are out to get you.

That's my thoughts on the matter. As for how secure it really is... I haven't a clue. We'll just have to wait till someone with real knowledge comes along and helps us out.

    Secure from the masses, Yes.
    Secure from a few, No.

There is no security on this earth. Only opportunity.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the answers. I know not everything is 100% secure. I know nothing about security on my BB and how things like internet passwords are secured/encrypted.

So how about this...how does entering my password on the mobile gmail app on my BB compare to if I was entering my gmail password on my laptop's wireless connection using WPA2?

    Thanks again.

Well knowing about spyware, keyloggers, and wireless connections I'd think my BB connection would be more secure than my laptop.
