Lightbulb Howto: Jott to Google Apps Calendar

Getting Jott to work with Google Calendar for Domains (Google Apps) using Jott's official Google Calendar interface

I posted this in the Howto section yesterday, but it doesn't appear to have been approved for some reason. I feel it's relevant to the BlackBerry since I use Jott to add events to my Google Apps Calendar and in turn sync it with my BlackBerry using Google Sync. Hopefully it can be useful to the other small subset of BlackBerry users who have a Google Apps account and want to use this same combo.

    Background

Jott claims that it's Google Calendar interface does not work for Google Apps accounts, only with normal Google/Gmail accounts. There is a 3rd party web app I came across called Jott2Gcal that can be set up as a custom link in Jott and will work with Google Apps, however it has several limitations that Jott's official Google Calendar interface does not. The main one for me being that when you Jott a new calendar entry with Jott2Gcal, it does not by default add a notification to the Google Calendar event.

This was big for me since as I already mentioned, I use Google Sync on my BlackBerry to sync with my Google Apps calendar to use as reminders on my BlackBerry. The problem is, if your Google Calendar entry does not have a notification set, it will not set a reminder in your BlackBerry calendar entry when they are synced. Therefore you have to go into every event you want notifications for and add them manually, which can be a pain.

I searched all over the internet for a way to get around this, and it seemed no one knew how. Well I was playing around with Jott today, and figured out a way to "trick" it into using your Google Apps account. I tested it and it works great!

    Instructions

Important: Before you begin, make sure you're logged in to your Google for Domains (Google Apps) account. Also If you have a normal Gmail account in addition to your Google Apps account, make sure you're logged out of it, otherwise this won't work.
    1. Log into your Jott account
    2. Go to "Add JottLinks"
    3. Click "Add" next to the Google Calendar service
    4. Click "Save" and it will redirect you to the normal Google login page
    5. At this point, replace the section of the URL that says "accounts" with "a/your_domain_name". (If you're not sure what your_domain_name is, look at the URL when you're logged into your Google Apps account and you should see it)
    6. Hit enter to reload the page w/ the new URL
    7. If you did it correctly, you should be re-directed to a page on your Google domain that says "Access Request"
    8. Click "Grant Access".
    9. You should now be taken back to the Jott page, and presented with a list of your calendars from your Google Apps calendar.
    10. Choose the one you want for your default, click Submit, and you're done!

Cool, please let me know how it goes!

It works just fine with my and the wife's accounts so theoretically it should work for others, but I'm interested to know if others have success with it as well.
