How to - install 3rd party software using DM

To install 3rd party software using the desktop manager:

    1. First you need to download the .alx files to your PC, just point your browser to the software (sometimes a zip file).

    2. Unzip the file to your PC's Desktop.

    3. Connect your BlackBerry to your PC and then launch the Blackberry Desktop Manager. (The Desktop manager can be found on the Blackberry CD that came with your device)

    4. From Desktop manager open 'Application Loader'.

    5. In the Application Loader click 'Next' .Type your password, if you have a device password set.

6.Click Next and in 'Handheld Application Selection' screen, click 'Add'.

    7. Go to the directory for the program you want to add (usually what you unzipped to your desktop), select the
    .alx file, and click 'Open'

    8. The application is now added to the software list, verify that it's checked and click Next.

    9. Now you can click Finish. The wizard will run.

    10. Verify that your software is loaded on the Blackberry

    Done!

I have an Enterprise Edition 8700g. I was not able to install a 3rd party poker game. Is it because of the Enterprise edition?

    irie_man, Welcome to PinStack.

You indicate that you are on a company BES. Your ability to download and install 3rd party apps is probably limited by an IT policy sent to your BB by the IT BES Admins.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

Solo, take a look at this thread:

    http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...jar_games.html

This should give you what you need to convert the files.

Is this the first time you have tried to install an App on your BB? When during the install does this occur?

Question Re: How to - install 3rd party software using DM

    HI Rcbjr,

I know for a fact that our BB admins are blocking the install of 3rd party software. With that said do you know of any way to get around this block caused by the IT policy on the BES server? I am well aware they may spank me for it but I would still like to know if there is some sort of work around. I have tried doing it wirelessly and through the desktop manager, but neither has worked as of yet. Is there a way to change the policy on the handheld itself? or possibly a crack that can be used?

    thanks

    jmon,

If I were you, I wouldn't mess with trying to find or do anything concerning a workaround for the IT policy. A spanking from your company can be very costly to your career. It's hard to tell someone in a job interview that you were let go from your previous employment for violation of company policy.

    Malik3, Welcome to PinStack.

Do you have the current version of your Handheld OS installed on your PC. This is required for Desktop Manager Apps Loader to load 3rd Party Apps.
