How to fix "uncaught exception:java.lang etc...?

Help! Today I upgraded OS to v4.2.1.96 (including AT&T graphics and themes) onto my 8100. By the way, the themes aren't as readable as the old Cingular ones. Anyway, when attempting to open SplashID ver 3.4.1 (my favorite and most used third-party app), I get the follwing message: "uncaught exception:java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException ." I have hard-booted the BB several times, but I get the same error message. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....rogerc

By any chance is this the first time that you have ever used the Desktop Manager software since you bought the phone? The uncaught exception error is common with AT&T Pearls. If you installed the DM software that came on the CD shipped with your phone, thats probably the culprit.

You'll need to download the most recent DM to your PC and install it, and most likely you'll need to reinstall the OS upgrade as well.

If you can read your media card (pictures, video, music, etc) then this might not be the source of the problem, but it sure sounds like it at this point.

Thanks for responding. I should have mentioned that I also installed the new DM 4.2 SP2 along with the AT&T OS. I can access the phone's media card no problem. Any other ideas?

It may be an incompatibility between the current version of SplashID and the new Handheld S/W. Have you contacted the SplashID vendor to see if they have other reports of this happening?

you also might want to try uninstalling/reinstalling spashid.
