    GPSed from SHAPE Services

SHAPE Services has just started a new project - GPSed. GPSed is a location-based service for trip tracking from Blackberry devices.

What advantage can you take of GPSed?
You can enjoy many interesting functions, such as:
    * Tracks saving: record tracks of your trips anywhere on the Earth from your BlackBerry. Your tracks will be traced on Google Maps and stored in an online archive or in your BlackBerry.
    * Real-time tracking: show to your friends the instant position on a map when you are traveling
    * Geotagging: Pin digital photos to a map precisely at a place they were taken. Geotagging will work both with the photos captured with your Blackberry and with another digital camera.

    How to use?
Step 1. Download GPSed Blackberry app.
You can download it over-the-air at: http://wap.gpsed.com
or download it to your PC at http://gpsed.com/mobile and install it via cable.
GPSed BlackBerry application is absolutely free.

Step 2. Sign up to GPSed online service at:
    http://gpsed.com/signup
It’s free and easy to use.

GPSed is fully compatible with Blackberry devices equipped with the internal GPS receivers (8310, 8800, 8820, 8130). GPSed is also compatible with 4.2 OS Blackberry devices that can connect to the external GPS receivers via Bluetooth.

You can find more information about GPSed at:
    http://gpsed.com/about

GPSed Blackberry app and Online Service are now on beta stage, so any comments and questions are welcome. You could post your feedback to this thread.

Beta-testing of GPSed from SHAPE Services

SHAPE Services is glad to announce its new project - GPSed.
The project is on beta stage, so any comments and wishes are welcome!

GPSed is a location-based service for trip tracking from BlackBerry devices. It works with GPS techology and brings more functionality to BlackBerry devices.

First let’s define what GPS is.
GPS (Global Positioning System) is the satellite-based positioning technology that allows a GPS receiver to identify its location anywhere on Earth. It allows users with a GPS receiver to determine precise coordinates for their location on the Earth's surface.
Some BlackBerry devices have built-in GPS receivers (8130, 8310, 8800, 8820), others can can connect to the external GPS receiver via Bluetooth (other 4.2 OS BlackBerry devices).
GPSed works both with internal (built-in) and external GPS receivers.

What advantage can you take of GPSed?

You can add more functionality to your Blackberry, for example:
    * Tracks saving: record tracks of your trips anywhere on the Earth from your BlackBerry. Your tracks will be traced on Google Maps and stored in an online archive or in your BlackBerry.
    * Real-time tracking: show to your friends the instant position on a map when you are traveling
    * Geotagging: Pin digital photos to a map precisely at a place they were taken. It will work both for photos captured with your Blackberry or with another digital camera.

    How to?
Step 1. You need to download GPSed Blackberry app.
You can download it directly to your Blackberry OTA at: http://wap.gpsed.com
or download it to your PC and install via BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    Download link:
    http://gpsed.com/mobile
NOTE: GPSed app is compatible with 4.2 OS BlackBerry devices only.

Step 2. Sign up to GPSed online service at:
    http://gpsed.com/signup

Both BlackBerry application and Online Service are absolutely free.

If your BlackBerry device doesn't have built-in GPS capabilities, you need to have external GPS receiver and connect it to your BlackBerry via Bluetooth.

You can find more information about GPSed at:
    http://gpsed.com/about

If you have any comments, questions or wishes, we would be glad to answer you. Please post to this thread.
We are waiting for your feedback!

Mobile app works on my 8830. I created a "track" and uploaded it to my GPSed account. However, I could not open my track or anyone elses to map it. I guess they're still working on the website. Whenever they get this working, it will be a "must have" app.

I just tried it out on my 8310 and couldn't get it to work. The app seems to be recording GPS data ok, but it's not displaying it correctly on the website after uploading. I first uploaded while the track was still running on the phone and it said it uploaded ok, but the website showed the distance as zero and no data. So then I stopped the track first and uploaded again, and this time it showed data but it showed my trip as starting in Europe and traveling across the Atlantic ocean to the US, which would be pretty difficult since I was in a car and in Texas the entire time. Obviously it still has some kinks to be worked out being in beta. Still trying to figure out the usefulness of this service though.

I've been looking for a tracking app to use while hiking and dirtbiking. I like the odometer feature. A track-back feature would be nice.

For now you can view your tracks in GPSed Web service only.
    Please visit http://gpsed.com

We are going to add track viewing to BlackBerry app also.

    Thank you for comments.

Would you please describe in more detail what you mean by "track-back" feature?

Let me know if you'd like me to provide any further info/data. My username is also 'bonebox' with your service in case you want to look at the track I uploaded.

    Re: GPSed from SHAPE Services

    Victoria,

The track-back feature would allow you to select a previously created track and then guide you through it, either forwards or backwards. That way, when hiking, I know I'm on the same trail I took last time, or if I'm on a new trail, I know how to get back.

    Thanks,
    Rick
