I just got this error on my Pearl after swapping the SIM card back into it from a different phone:

Try updating the time on the BlackBerry. Last time I had this problem it was because I had the wrong time set...

Re: Google Talk Connection Error (56)?

The date/time setting on the BlackBerry device has been set incorrectly.

    Resolution

Change the date/time setting manually to reflect the correct date/time, or change the Date/Time Source option to Network.

There are two ways to update the date and time on a BlackBerry device.
    Using the BlackBerry device

    1. Navigate to Options > Date/Time.
    2. Change the Date/Time Source field to one of the following options:
    • BlackBerry - Synchronizes the time with the Research In Motion® BlackBerry Infrastructure and not the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
    • Network - Synchronizes the time with your service provider's network time.
    • Off - Does not synchronize the date or time.
    Using BlackBerry Desktop Manager

    1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    2. Double-click the IntelliSync or Synchronize icon.
    3. Select Update device's date and time.
    4. Click Close.
    Additional Info

If you want to synchronize your BlackBerry device with your company's network time or your computer time,
    1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    2. Double-click the IntelliSync or Synchronize icon.
    3. Select Update device's date and time.
    4. Click Close.
    5. Set the Date/Time Source field on the BlackBerry device to Off.
