I found a website that lets you send and receive text messages for free. It is a little more complicated than just sending a text message however if your friends are not as advanced as you and cant send emails, this is how you can text them for free and receive texts for free.

    Point your BB textem.net
You can send text without a membership. If you sign up(and it is free) and you can then receive texts for free to your email.

Otherwise if you use yahoo mail from your BB you can send text messages right from your email account. You have to be in full .html yahoo mail for this to work. You just select the "new" drop down menu and select "text" in that menu.

Either way you don't have to pay for texting if you don't mind an extra 10 seconds here and there. If I find a better free way I will share that as well!

It works great! Just put the persons phone# in front of the rest of the address. ie 5555555555@vtext.com

And it will use your email to send a text. I edited everyone in my phone book using this and did away with my text plan!
With my carrier all my incoming text are free so I don't have to worry about getting charged if they reply. Plus I did notice. If someone does reply from my original text it comes back to my email anyways.
