    I'm getting this problem too.

I'm unable to "download" once you get to the .jar/.jad, there is only "open" which results in the error.

Download implies that you are receiving it from the internet, while open is a local operation on the device. My two cents.

If this works for anybody I'd like to know what OS your phone is running.

I saw it mentioned somewhere but I am reaffirming that the Pearl OS must be 4.2.1.x in order to have that "Download" function as mentioned.

Once you open a jar/jad file, it provides an option to download, which it will then proceed to install the program onto your device.

I have a blackberry pearl with the latest Os and I tried getting it on there by following your directions twice, but it doesn't seem to work. Everything was fine and dandy until I got to the part where you said to download. The only options I have that are remotely similar to "download" are "Download Tunes" and Download Images". Would appreciate some help

Re: convert .jar / .jad files to .alx / .cod files

im having this problem as well.

do we not have an official solution to this by now?

    also...

Download the jad/jar file onto your desktop.
Check it has the right extension by right click and check properties on the file. The download might need unziping.
Connect your blackberry to Desktop Manager
Open your Media Manager application in Desktop Manager
In the right hand windowMake a new folder in My Blackberry/Device Memory/Games
i stoped there because i noticed ones i made the games folder i cant remove it.

i still cant delite it. anyone know how the folder is removed?

    Instructions Step by step

Download the jad/jar file onto your desktop.
Check it has the right extension by right click and check properties on the file. The download might need unziping.
Connect your blackberry to Desktop Manager
Open your Media Manager application in Desktop Manager
In the right hand windowMake a new folder in My Blackberry/Device Memory/Games
Using the right side of your media manager copy your JAD/JAR files into the folder.

You must follow EXACTLY these instructions

Open the Media application on the blackberry
press the right button next to the trackball
    Click explore
    Track down to Device Memory
press the right button next to the trackball
    Click Open
Track down to your /Games Folder
press the right button next to the trackball
    Click Open
    Select the JAR file
    Select "Download"

The Application will load on to your blackberry and is noe available in your application menu.

I've also found using this method that I can load to my media card games/HTML files/Text files/PDF and read them but you must the EXPLORE,OPEN menus to see them otherwise the pearl does not see the files.

    Best of luck!
    Sir you are a genious
There No longer is necessery to convert to COD or any other means
I have used DOS, Developer and those all takes time / internet download

I cannot get Roxio to transfer my .jad file when I am following the instructions. Has anyone had this problem and can offer some help?

Roxio/Desktop Manager only transfers .alx/.cod files. The method you see above is transfered by putting the .jar file onto the media card.

I've had the same errors. The best answer I can give is some files simply won't install. What exactly are you trying to install?
