    BlackBerryGuy Presents: Metova Field Sales Solution

    OVERVIEW:
    The solution consists of a BlackBerry device, a Metova Hosted server and Partner data upload/download task running on a partners server. Upon reciept of data from the BlackBerry (i.e. order entry), the Metova Hosted can notify partner systems in a variety of ways, or simply save a file and wait for the partners scheduled task to copy the file to their system. The BlackBerry application periodically downloads current data such as pricing catalogs to keep the salesperson up-to-date at all times. No part of this solution requires special connectivity or addtional server hardware.

    FUNCTIONALITY:

    Pricing
    The pricing screen allows the user to access all the information in the producat catalog. Pricing can be displayed at specific or preferred pricing levels, or by an associated pricing level per customer using jump-to-navigation from the customer screen.

    Cost Display
    Produc cost is hidden from prying eyes, and secured based on the users role. If the user has permission, typing Alt+C will display the cost




    Multiple Pricing Levels
    Pricing levels can be specified for the entire catalog, as well as associated with particular customers. The user can set a pricing display preference as well as navigate to the screen from a customer information screen to see relevant pricing.

    Search
    Searching is capable on the product name and description fields. The user can iterate over the search results with navigation buttons that appear when a search is submitted.

    GoTo
    If a user knows the product code, they may type the initial few charachters or numbers of the model and go to the closest match. If no match is found, the application will attempt to go to the closest numerical or alphabetical match.

    Avaliability/Location Based Inventory
    A user can see inventory levels of the product by clicking the "avail" button. The display contains a table of locations and inventory counts as of the last download.

    Accounts Recieveable/Customer Summary

    The AR/customer summary display will provide the user with up-to-date information on the client account. Navigation to other screens (jump-to navigation) from this screen will display the data in the context of this customer.

    Filter Orders By Age
    A user can easily filter orders via the All/Old button. A user can filter by:
    • 30 days
    • 60 days
    • 90 days
    • >90 days
    Order Entry
    Order entry is usually very specific to the impletentation. Orders can be placed in a simple form, or order screens can be configured in a user friendly wizard format.

    Field Validation
    Fields can be validated in many ways, pattern matching, email, phone, credit card, number, etc.




    Real-Time Submission
    Once the order is submitted, it will be transmitted securely to the Metova Hosted Data Server. From there, depending on th eneeds of the partner, real time notification/relay of the data can be made to the partner site. Data will be translated on the Metova Hosted Data Server into the form specified to minimize effort by the partner.

    Out of Coverage Enabled
    In many locations, service may be poor or even inaccessible. this will not inhibit the order entry process. Orders may still be submitted and they are securely stored in the handheld queue database for processing as soon as appropriate signal strengh is sensed by the application. At that time, the order will be submitted to the server.

    Contact Synchronization
    Users can automatically keep their address book up to date with the company address book. The partner can provide contacts in the standard VCard format. These contacts may be company personnel or customers or both. Contacts provided in this manner will be synchronized with the standard address book built into the BlackBerry. All contact fields in the BlackBerry address book may be synchronized.

    Getting Started
    Help content is provided and resides on the device. The partner may customize this text to suit the specific needs of the organization.

    Shortcut Keys
    This content is a quick reference to the shortcut keys avaliable in the various screens for quick navigation.

    System Diagnostics
    Part of any mobile solution must account for supportability. Any solution added should not add additional strain to the sales organization. As such, several tools are build in to ease troubleshooting.



    Application Queues
    The application communicated over HTTP/HTTPS to the servers. At times there can be network issues. To counter this, Metova has developed Network Inteligent Roaming Technology. If more information is desired, a suer or support staff may open the Application Queues to obtain detailed information regarding the status of submissions (such as order entry).

    Automatic Log
    The application can be set to automatically send the application log, device configuration and status to a specified email address. Most partners use this as an easy way to access information specific to the user and device in the event of a support call. This information can also be accessed by Metova support in the case where an issue is escalated.

    Other
    Several other attributes exist throughout the application.

    Automatic Downloads
    The partner can specify how often to download date for any aspect of the application. Usually a daily download in the early morning hours is selected.

    Automatic Updates
    As the application is enhanced and features are added, new releases can be deployed on the Metova Infrastructure. The users application will check on a weekly basis for new software and will prompt to update at that time. This relieves the partner of any and all responsibility to deploy/provision user devices on an ongoing basis.

    Getting Started
    Help content is provided and resides ont he device. The partner may customize this text to suit the specific needs of the organization.

    Download Now
    If a user or partner experiences a system problme, the user an trigger an immediate data download.

    Download Freshness Display

    On each relevant screen, the freshness of the data will be displayed in the lower right hand corner.

    Integrated Device Status Indicators
    Battery, signal and undread email indicators are present at the top of the application home screen for convenience.

    Role Based Security
    The partner organization can specify security roles to restrict the viewing of information. This is usually implementation specific.

    TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

    BlackBerry Versions
    This solution is supported for all BlackBerry devices version 4.0 and higher. this includes 4.0.0, 4.0.2, 4.1.0, 4.2.0 and 4.2.1. Metova is a BlackBerry Alliance member. As such, support for new devices is added before the general public release of new devices.

    Data Transmission
    This solution currently suuports many types of data transmission mediums. Some of the mediums are; email, HTTP, HTTPS, SCP, SOAP, REST. Ask your representative if you have a preferred method of transmission that is not listed here.

    Pinstack Is Starting To Suck!

    WTF is with these full page adds for third party apps/sevices? On the top, bottome and sides is bad enough but now I have to scroll past this crap to get any intersting posts? Wow. Pretty sad. Why dont you guys just stick these in a "New Product Releases" thread and save us all the crap, forced-marketing, ads? The only posts that should be on the main page are those posted by Pinstack users with valuable/meaningful subject matter. Not some giant ad that will have only 3 replies all day! Damn!

    Many people use these products and are happy that they are out there. They generate more than 3 replies all day. They also contain meaningful information. If you are unhappy about this, please do not look at them.

    I can understand your frustration, especially if they are posts that you have no interest in, however, the system automatically generates the posts that go on the front pages, it's not like there is a special code to put in to do so.

    You're thoughts have been noted and will be taken into consideration.

    I cant wait. maybe one day PIN Stacks main page will be one GIANT ad for third party wares. That would be neat! Then, instead of being a top notch troubleshooting forum, we can look at pretty ads all day and talk about how NEAT it is to play Handango games on our BBs.
