does the softwear in the above link rip the dvd to your harddrive to or do you need a separate program to do that first?

no. you have to get the dvd to a supported file first... the list of supported input files for super is shown in the below image.

programs like dvdshrink, or handbrake work well for taking a video dvd (home movies, etc.) to its electronic file counterpart (aka, a supported file shown above).

handbrake is good at converting files too... may be able to get it to your bb that way.
