    Hi Knightberlin, I'm new to this forum and really glad to see such a good samaritan like yourself! Are you still offering the free .jar to .alx conversion service?

    Thanks!

    I like this forum and I'd like to help out in any way I can. Thanks to the experts who have made life easy for us...somehow.

    I assume from your Profile listing for device BB 83 that you have an 8300/curve. If so and you also have a media card, use Desktop Manager, Media Manager to load the jar file to your media card. Then disconnect the BB from the PC and open the Media App and the Menu. Select explore and browse to the jar file. Open it and it will install on your BB.

    [WARNING]
    This will only work with .jar files and jad/cod file combinations. You must have all associated cod files loaded on your media card when trying to install from a jad file.

    Re: alx conversion

    Thanks for the suggestio. I've given this a try, but for some reason Roxio Media Manager that came with the BB 8300 does not allow you to easily load the jar file to the media card.

    Any ideas on how best to do this?

    Thanks!

    Re: alx conversion

    Process of converting jad+jar in cod+alx:
    1. Download and install:
    BlackBerry_JDE_4.2.1.exe
    jdk-1_5_0_12-windows-i586-p.exe
    2. To register a path
    set path=C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.2.1\bin
    3. To make a bat-file, sample:
    rapc import="C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.2.1\lib\net_rim_api.jar" codename=Opera -midlet jad=Opera.jad Opera.jar
    Where codename - a name of your application,
    jad = - your files
    4. To make an alx-file, sample:
    <loader version="1.0">
    <application id="Opera">
    <name>Opera</name>
    <description>Opera 4.2 by Den</description>
    <version>4.2</version>
    <vendor>Den mobile</vendor>
    <copyright>Copyright (c) 2007 Den</copyright>
    <fileset Java="1.1">
    <directory ></directory>
    <files>Opera.cod</files></fileset>
    </application>
    </loader>
    5. To load the application into phone
    Done.

    I have a JAD file (theme) that I need converted. I don't have a data plan, and I'm on a Mac and VirtualPC hates JAVA.

    Can I send this to someone to convert? It's for a Pearl.

    Mine gets past the loading stage and then tells me I need a data plan and makes me quit. Installed great though.

    Maps require data plan. I would also go for any map program not requiring such data plan, although when it's totally free, improvement becomes slow!

    Shandos_tt,

    Check this thread:
    http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...p_manager.html

    Also try and search for other threads on jar/jad conversion - they're all over this forum, thanks to the experts!

    I've found out after doing much conversion that it's not fun anymore
    but if it's between life and death for you, e-mail me the jar/jad files and I'll look into it!

    I may not be authorized, but welcome to PinStack!
