You might try Ramble, which is free and I believe uses SMS (text).

    Re: AiM?

Actually Ramble uses Data to connect and to recieve and send IMs. At the moment there is no AIM application that uses texts only.
    -------
What you can do it set up your AIM so that it sends all your IM's to your mobile device and this will only use SMS Text messages and not data.

My bad, got Ramble mixed up with Oz messenger, which I read does use text. I think that may only be available for certain carriers though.. not sure.

OZ messenger does use SMS text messages, but it also uses Data to connect and keep you connected. So you would still get a data bill, and without a plan that can be expensive.

    Re: AiM?

If that's the case, it's a pretty dumb design choice. Essentially forces you to have both an unlimited data AND text plan...

    Re: AiM?

Yes it is true, as I started above if you use AIM there is an option that you can forward IM's to your mobile device. This will NOT use any Data.

Ok make sure you have the newest AIM. (AIM 6). Go to VIEW> MODULES> MOBILE. Register your cell phone #. And you're all set

    Re: AiM?

Yes you can un-register it if you no longer want your IM's sent to your mobile device or if you wish to change the phone number.
