Someone please explain in complete detail what the purpose of the UMA symbol is on my BB8900. I used to have it and it's been gone for about 8 days now. I still have the EDGE and WiFi symbols, but I miss the UMA symbol. Go figure. There has to be a reason for it magically appearing and then disappearing. Sometimes if I just wait long enough, it comes back again, but not this time. I don't have the Rogers Talk Spot/Hot Spot/whatever, b/c I don't need it. I have a wireless router at home and am accessing that...most of the time. Admittedly so, the WiFi symbol can't always make up its mind, whether to grey itself out or not, but for the most part, I can always keep restarting it in the "Manage Connections" area and eventually it takes.

...but I miss my UMA symbol. It's got to be there for a reason, err rather, it used to be there for a reason...no?? Why can't I get it back now? Do I need that pesky little UMA symbol to access the internet from anywhere in my house or as long as WiFi isn't greyed out, I'm good to go, without being charged data?

Calling all techie guru's to explain to me, why oh why, my UMA symbol doesn't like me anymore and won't come back.

Does anyone else find that sometimes there is huge lag with Hotmail on the rogers network?

Just for a test i will send myself emails between my hotmail, gmail, and blackberry address. and consistently Hotmail will come in. but every now and then Hotmail has hug lag.

sometimes I will check my hotmail email online and I will see I have 10 emails that never got my phone. so I will send an hotmail email from my phone to my gmail, just to wake it up. and then all my emails will all come pouring in. sometimes they are 2 or 3 hours old.

does anyone else notice this. is this a Roger's issue, or a RIM network issue? or a Hotmail issue?

It all started when I first signed up with Rogers. I asked for a phone that would give us video as...

It all started when I first signed up with Rogers. I asked for a phone that would give us video as well as take pictures. The person selling the phone suggested a Blackberry Perl. My wife and I agreed to sign a three year contract and was told that this has these functions that we were looking. Some months later we were having our first child. We tried over and over to find how the video function worked. We went to the store that we purchased the phone and we were told it’s a software upgrade and that it still hasn't been out yet. So at the end of the month we went back and were told that we needed to buy a memory card for this option to work. After purchasing 2 memory cards for both phones we were told that he was sorry that after all this it did not have video. I was really disappointed with the representative of Rogers by leading us to the wrong phone and was told to call Rogers and they may be able to help. Since it was almost a year waiting back and forth with this guy.

Rogers seemed to understand and we were able to upgrade to a Blackberry 8900 at a cost of $199.00 each and by extending our contract. Since this time I had went through 5 Blackberry 8900's. Yes, this is my 5th one right now. Being upset with them once again for being inconvienced and lied to since the first time I walked in there I called them and spoke to retention. At this point I told them there must be something done due to all my problems. We discussed that maybe it might be best to change the phone to this wonderful deal that they had to offer me....A refurbed Iphone...they told me that they would give me a 16gig for the value of $49.00. I was very happy with what they were going to do for all the problems I have gone through with all of this. She took all my information and put me on hold. After a few minutes the lady told me that she didn't have any in stock at this time and call back in a couple of days because they seem to get them every other day. After calling back several times they never seem to have this phone. The one gent seemed to sweeten the pot for me once again to give the same deal to my wife because of all the problems and causing us all these problems.

I called back several days later and same thing...we don't have them in stock. At this point I thought to speak to a supervisor and she told me that maybe they might just might have them in at December. I couldn't believe it...she then told me that she is lead to believe that she even thinks that they will not have them at all. After telling her the whole story from day one she then told me that there are other phones that are available. Just not the one they want to give you. They seem to have it in other departments but not in theirs. After telling her how crappy this is she seems to find one. BUT...I have to sign up for another 3 years and the phone has no warranty at all. This left a real sour taste in my mouth after going through 5 Blackberrys...no warranty...I asked what about the other one for my wife as promised. She tells me that there is no file on her computer stating the other gent promised. I also asked the man several times to make sure this is written in the notes. And she made sure it was there. Hmmmmmm..I asked to speak with a manager to see if we can resolve this matter.

After waiting several days a manager calls me back...She then tells me the same...there is none in stock...asked her about the one the supervisor found...and was told she must have been mistaken. Pick something else....I asked her how about we just relax. We start a new contract for an Iphone and we would pay for the phone at the discounted rate that you see at any store. Sorry sir not possible...we just make sure that the line works and we really don't have to do anything much more than that. If you want you can call RIM and complain to them about the phone. I was shocked to hear her talk to me, after hearing from the other supervisor that they would make sure that you would be satisfied and make sure that you would be smiling after dealing with them.....Well right now I would say "NOT". She told me that there is nothing she can do about this how about some other phone. There is no way that you can have an Iphone...There was a pause and nothing said after that..She then put me on hold and I waited some time before coming back and she told me I tried something and that was the last thing she can do.

I thought maybe if I step it up one more level maybe someone had the phones that were promised me, after going through all this crap. She told me that the President will call me back in several days but she seems to think there is no way possible on getting these refurb phones that the other departments have...What Crap...anyone like to give any suggestions.

Ok, I am not sure which one it is but here is my conundrum.... I just started getting 3g service...

Ok, I am not sure which one it is but here is my conundrum.... I just started getting 3g service this past August, and it has been stable until about 2 weeks ago. I use to get almost full service in my basement and all around town(Prescott, ON), even driving to Brockville it was solid 3g. Now I don't even get service in my basement, getting dropped calls all over, and even losing signal in buildings that I use to get full strength.
My question is, do they reduce the strength somehow so I am getting weaker signal? or Could it be my phone itself that has something wrong with it?
I have just done (today) a fresh install of the OS for Rogers (4.6.0.282) and still have the same results for signal strength. Customer service has been of no help at all. Does anyone here have any ideas, I am going nuts with this sporadic signal strength and lack of signal at all.
