  • CardStar Now Available For BlackBerry and Android

There is a very useful application now available for BlackBerry and Android smartphones called CardStar. If you are like me, you have cards for everything, grocery stores, clothing stores, gym, and more that you scan in every time you shop or visit certain visits. This can make for a very crowded and cluttered keyring or wallet. CardStar solves this problem by getting all those cards organized into one nice tidy app on your phone. When ready to scan just open the app, scroll through the list to the card you need and scan the barcode on your BlackBerry or Android screen.

I have been using this app on my iPod Touch for many months now and love it. Most of the time it will not scan using flatbed scanners though, but the handheld scanners pick it up almost every time. And if your screen is smudgy or the scanner is being temperamental, the numbers can be entered manually by the cashier.

The app is free, you can download it OTA from your phone's browser: BlackBerry Android

Head to CardStar's site for more info.

Wow, it's over 3.5mb for the app. I'll give it a whirl, though.

      Thanks, AZ!

It really is convenient, so many times I have run into the store while my son was waiting in the car(keeping the car running and the A/C cranking is always a good thing here in AZ) then get to the register and realize my shopper card is on my keyring out in the car (duh!). Now my cards are all on my phone.....I may not always carry my purse or my keys, but my phone is always in my hand so I always have my cards!

Great app....I don't even carry my cards because there is one for every store out there. This will save the time of having to give a phone number and name...

So its those little keychains cards made into an app?

Like Food Lion , American Eagle, CVS, Best Buy Reward Program, Sears, have those barcodes on back with numbers?

You just enter the numbers into this app and the cashier can scan it and it still works asif you were scanning those little card keychains things?

Yep, exactly. I have my local supermarkets, american eagle, LA Fitness, CVS, and many others loaded on my phone. Works just the same as the cards......but cooler....especially if you get a cashier that never saw it before....they will be awed by your geeky coolness

Now this is definitely an app I could use. Gotta love the innovation of some people. I have 5-6 different cards I carry around for different businesses. Will have to download this one later.

There are some other similar apps for Android that have been around for a while like keyring which work well too. Unfortunately CardStar did not do enough testing before their Android release and it does not work properly on many devices. Some complaining of force closes and others(like me) where the barcode scanner does not work so I have to manually enter my cards into the app's data base instead of simply scanning with the phone's camera. But I know that their iPhone version is awesome so I have faith they will get the bugs worked out of the Android version.

Currently I have American Eagle on mine.
I tried putting Subway Points Card on there but it doesn't show a bar code when you press menu key and select Show Bar code.
      It just shows the numbers.

I haven't had a chance to use it in the store yet, but I like the concept.

They need to tweak the app a little, though. Did an OS upgrade on my device yesterday and the card information does not get backed up. Had to re-enter everything.

I know I've heard that they're also working on improvements to make scanning on a flatbed scanner work better.

Just saw on BerryReview that CardStar has come out with some great and much needed enhancements, including:

      • Reduced its size by 70% to 1.1MB
      • Added SD Card backup and restore
      • Search box in the merchant list
      • Other misc bug fixes.

Find out more at www.mycardstar.com or download OTA here.

Yes, they have been working hard on this app to optimize it for BB and Android, they also fixed the Android version so the scanner is working so cards don't have to be manually entered. I use this app regularly and it works great!
