BlackBerry outage hits e-mail, messenger access

Talk about bad timing for Research In Motion.

On the heels of another disappointing quarterly report, RIM is suffering from an outage that has hit its e-mail and BlackBerry Messenger services today. BlackBerry customers took to Twitter to voice their complaints. The company later acknowledged problems.

"Some Canada & LatAm customers report BBM issues. Our support teams are investigating. We apologize for any inconvenience," the company said in a tweet.

A RIM representative wasn't immediately available to provide further details on the extent of the problem to CNET.

The outage appears to be more widespread. The Huffington Post reported seeing tweets complaining about service in the U.K. and the Middle East.

I am in Cleveland, Ohio, and BIS has been down since last evening.

Are any of you experiencing BIS outages? If your service has been restored, how long was it out?

      Nope. I'm not.
But my friends on Voda and TMN in Portugal have intermittent service. Bummer!

This is unusual, since most of the BIS outages recently have only affected specific regions. It's been a while since there was a global BIS outage.

Man, the news just keeps getting worse for RIM. They sure haven't made too many smart decisions lately.

Maybe they're just lulling us all into this false sense of doom for them and they'll come back with a bang in 2012.

I sure hope so. They couldn't have a worse time for a BIS outage, after all the latest financial troubles.
