The Auto Text feature on all BlackBerries have macros available to them which can be useful. In Auto Text, a macro is preceded by the percent symbol (%) and followed by a case sensitive letter. Here is a (complete?) list of macros available:
  • %b - Delete (current character)
  • %B - Delete (previous character)
  • %D - Long Date (Fri, Jun 1, 2008)
  • %o - Name (as entered in Options --> Owner --> Name)
  • %O - Information (as entered in Options --> Owner --> Information)
  • %p - 12345678901 (Device Phone Number. No punctuation)
  • %P - 12345678 (Device PIN)
  • %T - Long Time (6:58:20 AM)
  • %V - 8800/4.2.1.79 (Device Model/OS Version)

You can use these macros to create multiple Auto Text signatures which you can then use for different situations such as one short one for SMS messages, one for business email, and one for personal email.

I have my full name entered under Options --> Owner --> Name, and my work address and phone number under Options --> Owner --> Information. I then have the following Auto Text entries for signatures, which are expanded as follows:
  • sig (%o<cr>%O)
    Jerry D
    My Company
    Company Address
    Company City, State Zip

    W: (123) 456-7890
    Fx: (123) 098-7654
  • sigg (%o<cr>%O<cr>M: (987) 123-4567)
    Jerry D
    My Company
    Company Address
    Company City, State Zip

    W: (123) 456-7890
    Fx: (123) 098-7654
    M: (987) 123-4567
  • sigg (%o<cr>%O<cr>M: (987) 123-4567<cr>H: (121) 123-4567<cr>PIN: %P)
    Jerry D
    My Company
    Company Address
    Company City, State Zip

    W: (123) 456-7890
    Fx: (123) 098-7654
    M: (987) 123-4567
    H: (121) 123-4567
    PIN: 12345678

In the Auto Text entries above <cr> indicates a carriage return within the Auto Text definition.

This way it's easy to add exactly what information I want to send with any message. I find it very handy - hope you do too!
